Synced the wrong way(?) and lost all data

I backed my W995 up using MyPhone Explorer before it went for a repair. When I got it back I launched MyPhone explorer and checked that all the backed up data was still there on my PC. It was, so I then connected my phone and clicked SYNC. This then proceeded to sync the phone's blank memory to the backup, thus clearing all data in both places. I thought it would restore all data from the backup to the phone.
What did I do wrong?

For backups you have to use Menu-Extras-Create backup
Which version of MyPhoneExplorer did you use ?
Have you any backup (i mean a real backup)

Hi FJ,
I'm using version 1.7.4.
I created a full backup using Extras, Create Backup before my phone was sent away.
When I got the phone back I launched MyPhone Explorer. All my contacts automatically appeared. I therefore assumed it had loaded back in the last known backup for my convenience.
I then performed a Sync. That's when I lost everything on the phone.
I've since realised that you have to Restore the data to get it back on the phone, so all's well. I just can't work out why the Sync wouldn't do the same.

Th sync should do the same but espacially after softwareupdates its hard to keep the whole data in order.

Thanks for the help, but I guess it's a mystery then. Anyway, now I know the correct procedure I should be OK.
