Stuck "Checking for latest version"

Just today when I start MPE (2.3) it is getting stuck at "Checking for latest version" - I have to force stop. I have reinstalled the 2.3 version and restarted the PC (Windows 11) but it is still happening. Any ideas please?

I also cannot reproduce the problem, however I see some possible measures:

Before sending the log to FJ, have a look into it by yourself. Maybe you get a hint. Consider the possibility, that the problem might or might not have to with this last message displayed, a later step without message could have caused that.

Uncheck the version check in the settings. If the problem is gone, you can work with MPE again und perform a manual version check from time to time. Or, if the problem is gone, you know a further initialisation step as probable cause for the malfunction.

Hi. Thanks but at the moment I can't open the application to look at logs or change settings as it doesn't get past this step. Are the logs viewable another way - are they kept locally somewhere?

You can find the debug.txt log file in your MPE database folder.
Windows Start button (Run) input: %appdata%\myphoneexplorer\debug.txt

where you have to change the line

to
CheckVersion=0

Are you sure that you supplied an up-to-date log file ?
Maybe logging is not enabled in the settings, so you got an outdated file which does not seem to show an error to me as a non-expert.

In case you cannot enable logging because you are unable to enter the settings page, you might need to activate that externally by modifying the settings file general.ini as described above modifying the Line
Log=0
to
Log=1

Maybe, your problem has something to do with this:

Thanks yes you are correct on both counts! This is the log from just now.... lots of "does not exist" messages perhaps to do with this.... ?
