Issue: Force as edited (on NOTE) only works on one note

Beitrag von gmdumlao »

Issue: Force as edited will only work on one note entry at a time despite selecting a range or ALL of the notes (via SHIFT-CLICK or CTRL-CLICK)

When you select a range of ntoes or all of the notes (the selected notes will then be highlighed) you then right-click on one and a flag appears next to that which you right-clicked -- indicating that is set as EDITED.

If you click on the Synchronize button-- it will only synch on that one which you right-clicked on insted of the RANGE of notes.

you then ask" "So?"

Well if you were doing this to send all the notes back to your phone since all your notes were empty -- say from having your notes deleted one way or another then it will dutifully synch JUST THAT ONE that you right clicked on instead of (what I would have expected) synch'ing ALL of the notes to the phone (since I had selected all of them-- thus I expect that when I right clicked to FORCE AS EDITED, I would expect ALL of the HIGHLIGHTED ONES to be FORCED AS EDITED ALSO)

Now, I understand why it did this-- it only recopgnized as EDITED that SINGLE NOTE that you right clicked on, thus since the other notes do not exist on the phone, it would proceed to ERASE all other notes on MPE as it is in fact a synch operation.

So? What's the problem?

Well you see when you select a range of contacts and you right-click on one and force it as edited, it will dutifully flag everything in the selction as as EDITED.

Not so when you do the same operation with NOTES -- it doesn;t matter whether you selected a range-- it will only flag as EDITED that single entry where you right-clicked on.

Meaning-- if you were to flag 50 notes as EDITED, you would have to right click on each and every one.

WHEW!

MPE version 1.7.4 / SE C905 / USB connection
Windows XP pro

Discovery of this was by accident-- I had my C905 repaired (the notorious Ear Piece problem) so I had to erase my sensitive data which I kept in the notes, I used the procedure above to selctively restore from backup

So you ask: "Why did you not use the RESTRE FROM BACKUP instead?"

Well I did Backup before and Tried to restore to my phone, unfortunately, when I do a restore when the restoring contacts is in progress and it hits around 250 (or somewhere near that number) my phone would re-boot!?!? I have 510 contacts, MPE tells me I have 490 still free

Needless to say, the restore never went through. I tried four times till I gave up. As I needed my contacts right away and deal with figuring out the problem later, I went to MPE's contacts section-- SELECTED ALL THE CONTACTS right-clicked on on and "forced as EDITED, and when I clicked the Synchronize buttion it dutifully "synchronised" all the "edited" contacts-- without hanging and without a hitch. it went alright.

So I though to do the same thing with my notes --> Select ALL, Right-click on one as FORCE as EDITED, and Synch -- BAM! it erased all the Notes except that one i right-clicked on.

So, you ask, how did I restore my notes? I went to restore from backup and and deselected the contacts--> it restored everything fine.

So now I am thinking perhaps MPE (or my C905 ????!!!??) has problems restoring from back-up when it hits 250 contacts.... Perhaps it needs a "rest-period" of several seconds every 100 contacts???)

Tchuss!
begnadigen Sie mein Deutsches, das es sehr rostig ist
