how do I use MPE to dial contacts from another application?

Hey FJ,

Thanks for the email, and I'm loving this program. It does so much of what I really liked to have with my P1i

I have a question which may not be very relevant to you.

I log / originate most of my phone calls from Lotus Organizer 6.1. However, LO can only make calls from the modem attached to the computer. I noticed today that it _does_ detect the presence of the Bluetooth Modem, and is able to initiate calls through my mobile phone via bluetooth (awesome).

Unfortunately, it does this as a data call/connection and there is no screen display on the phone to actually take the call. The sound is not transferred to my bluetooth headset either (as it would with MPE).

Is there some way to get MPE to take over the actual task of placing/routing the phone call when I press Dial in LO?

or alternatively, is there some magic you could share with us to help us set up a modem/AT string that I can send through LO to do the same thing?

There are commandlineoptions in MPE to dial a number, but i don't think Lotus will support simple commandlines for this. But maybe you can edit the dialcommand in Lotus.

Mostly the command for a initiated call looks like this:

ATD01234567

But this does not work for SE-Phones, to initiate a voicecall you have to add a seperator on the end

I saw a similiar suggestion on one of the threads on the forum and tried it, but didn't get much luck (actually, I may have tried ATDT from childhood memory)... Will try ATD0 and will revert... not too sure how the trailing ; will work though.

I haven't had a chance to explore it further, because unfortunately, MPE makes my XP SP3 machine BSOD... It's been rock stable always, so I'm quite sure it has something to do with MPE (or the bluetooth connection as operated by MPE).

I've held off using MPE for 7-10 days so I can be sure that it is the cause, and I'll revert on the forum then.

Normally you should not get Bluescreens, but some BT-Stacks are a littlebit problematic in this case. If nothing other helps then set the option "Disable automatic reconnect" in MPE.

Just to keep things clear and on record...

I traced the BSOD down to a faulty stick of RAM; it just happened to go bad around the same time as installing MPE, that's all.

I've also managed a simple workaround for dialling out of Lotus Organizer. I've enabled the clipboard hook in MPE, and now when I want to make the call in LO, I've simply scripted an action and a hotkey (using PowerPro!! yayy for powerpro!) to move to the telephone number field and copy the number <- triggers MPE and initiates the call..
