Sync with multiple Outlook files

Beitrag von Christo »

I'm syncing (with bluetooth) my private and business outlook file with this beautiful product but I've got a little bit of problems. I sync only from Outlook to the Phone (K750) so that the phone contains all appointments. But sometimes appointments are created double of removed and I can't find the logic behind it. Can someone explain me how MyPhoneExplorer determines which appointments should be created or removed? Or do I need to do something extra to get this working correctly?

Firs you should disable "Fast sync (compare only edited items) in the advanced sync-settings for Outlook.
But sometimes appointments are created double of removed and I can't find the logic behind it.
Please explain me where the items are removed or created as double. When i know this i can explain you the logic.

The problem is that it doesn't happen all the time and also not for all appointments. So I'm not sure if what I'm writing now is correct. I need to monitor this problem more precizely to give you proper feedback.

My first impression is that the link between the appointment in outlook and in the mobile is sometime lost. When syncing, the appointment is then created (sometimes) for the second time and then the screen appears what you want to do with the differences. But this doesn't happen always so sometimes I have to delete the created appointments and sometime I have to keep the appointment in the mobile. This is confusing and maybe I make some misstakes choosing the right action at that moment.

I have disabled the option to check only changed appointments so I hope it will work better now.

Thanks for the reply, Christo

I've checked and the problem is quit simple. When syncing my business outlook file the appointments from my private outlook file are removed and vice versa. I was confused because some appointments weren't removed but that was because I had told not to sync these appointments anymore.
So, the question is how is it possible to sync with two outlook files without loosing appointments?

Maybe it's possible to synchronize only appointments that exist or existed in the outlook file that is synchronized? Isn't there some guid or unique id for an outlook file that could be used?

There is a unique ID, but i see no stable solution for your problem. How should MPE detect that a entry should not been synced cause it comes from another PC/Outlook ?

Sorry for the late response but I'm a little busy these days. For me the solution is quite clear. When an appointment has a unique link to a specific outlook file then it should only be synced when that outlook file is synced. I don't precizely know how MPE works but I have seen the organizer.dat file and if you would link the unique ID of the outlook file to each appointment in this file then I guess it's easy to check which appointments should be synced. This works of course from Outlook to the mobile but also from the mobile to Outlook. Only problem is what to do with new appointments created in the mobile? In which outlook file should these appointment be created? That is why I only create appointments in outlook.

Maybe right, but i cannot save this UID on the mobile. Besides this - i have a unique ID of every item, but i cannot define if it was earlier in this Outlook-Installation or in another.

I don't know how the sync is performed but having the unique ID for each appointment in the organizer.dat file should be enough to check which appointments should be synced. But what I also see is that first part of the X-OUTLOOK-UID is the same for the appointments so maybe this part is already unique for an outlook file and can be used for that purpose.

Its a randomized id. Its not possible to find out from which *.pst-File the item comes with using the UID. Your request is very specific so i don't think that it makes sense to add this additionally logic into MPE

I don't think that I'm the only one that uses multiple calendars for private, business or other means. So I wouldn't call it specific but I understand your rejection if it's difficult to make.

But I have a (last) idea how to handle multiple outlook files. Instead of trying to put everything together keep everything seperated. So you should then create the possibility to register two (or maybe more) outlook files with all appliable settings and write them in seperate appointment.dat files. You combine the appointments from these files only when the calendar in MPE is shown.
