A bug in the organizer

I think i found a bug in the organizer. At least things doesnt behave as expected.

When importing a VCS file from my university (my schedule, if anyone is interested), some of the entrys are never showed in MyPhoneExplorer, but very much showed in the phone. I can reproduce many times, but i cannot see any pattern in which entrys are showed and which are not, other than the ones not showed are 'close' in the future. When i retry, its always same entrys that arent shown. It happend about a month ago, and that time it didnt showed next week from that time. I went on with life and lived with it, but this time its almost a month.

Im thinking, even if my uni would have wrong format in its VCS (wouldnt suprise me rly, but phone accepts it ok?), MyPhoneExplorer would not NOT show entrys, a more expected behaviour from that program

The phone can keep only 300 appointments - xould this raise your problem ?

the phone isnt the problem (at least dont think so) since the phone shows all appointments... but in any case, i have maybe about 50 appointments (with that uni-schedule). Without its about 10.

I just imported your file and it contained 71 events - again: Can you explain the problem a littlebit more exactly please.

How you import the file ? Righclick/Import ?

I right click and sent it to phone, through my bluetooth context menu. Phoneexplorer context menu works too to send to phone, but the 'import to organizer' has never worked well to me really. Maybe it IS the events formattings? Anyhow, after ive sent to phone, i sync and that way i get them in PE too.

sidenote: I added a new event today in the phone (while in school), and just synced, and showed up. So it only affects the meetings that i try to import from the VCS.

Thats how i do it, and the results are explained in first post. Something i can explain some more?

Ehrm. For now this issue can be ignored, it seems. Did a master flash (wotanserver) for another reason (got graphical errors), and it seems that all the appointments DO show up. same vcs-file used too, actually. I'll get back to you if i it happens again after letting SE repair my phone.

OK, did you also try to sync directly with your iCal-File ? maybe this works better then importing the file.

no, i did the same both times. However, this might, after all, be a phone issue. For some reason the import to PE didnt work for me.

My W850i is now sent for repairs, but meanwhile ive experienced same things with both my old S700i that i used meanwhile, and now a borrowed K800i. Atm school scheme things doesnt show up until april 28th.

How can I help to localize whats wrong so you can fix it?

hm, maybe i missunderstood you before when i said no... I normally send vcs-file to phone with bluetooth using the context menu (not the PE-context menu), do yo mean like that? If not please explain.

This way you do is not recommened. You let the phone interpret the data itself. Better is importing the file first to MyPhoneExplorer and then Sync.

Or the recommened way: In Menu-File-Settings-Sync you can choose "iCal-File" as Sync-Traget and then you are able to sync directly with your file.

Firstly, well thats kind of part of the issue. Importing of that file doesnt work (at all). i get no errors, the appointsments just doesnt show up at all in PE. Only way is to send to phone first.

As for the recommended way - do you mean i would have to change the settings for every time i want to import a new schedule from school? My only need is to sync with PE really, and this feels more as a workaround than a solution. Besides, i'd rather choose my google calendar if possible. Anyhow, i tried this setting (but sending to phone, read above) but i get the same result.

Personal thoughts: i was thinking that maybe there is a weird character in the VCS-file (here in sweden se also have the letters åäö / ÅÄÖ), or even wrong formatting in the file. However, when i send it to phone, it can read it with nothing going wrong. Its when i try and sync with PE that it gets b0rked (appointments are missing). My thoughts went to a wrong character in an event, that also gets sent to PE when synced, since its always the same appointments that are missing and in same kind of pattern (i'll try and explain that more below). But this feels very far away. Im no expert in this, but checked file in UltraEdit32 without seeing anything special relation with character/formating in the VCS-file i try and import and the errors i described.

Pattern of unexpected behavior in PE: Missing appointments are always from todays date until a date in the future, that may vary, but the date are the same for same schedule (meaning that next month may be different, but retries with same file, or new exported from university homepage gives same result). After the date in the future the appointments are shown as they should. Example: Now the appointments until the the 28th of april from that VCS-schedule im trying to import does not show up. What will happen after that date i dont know, but most problaby some day same thing will happen, imported appointed wont show up, 1-4 weeks into the future. In phone all works as expected.

I hope u understood my explaination, tried really i be detailed and clear. Now, what can do more? I got no clue at all.

Edit: Just for the sake i did try and import to my google calendar and then sync to PE (and phone ofc). Worked well. Further i deleted the appointment in PE and synced (with phone and google calendar). It wont delete the appointments it doesnt 'see' from google calendar - same behaviur as for the phone. For PE its like they dont exist.

I dont mean to bump this, but i think i found a related bug in the contact section. MPE just doesnt show some of the contacts thats actually on the phone. Checked with SE PC Suite, and that do shows them all.

At this time ive upgraded to a w890i, still use winXP (sp3) and 1.7.1 of MPE.

Let me know how i can help you, since MPE is program of choice - if it works correctly that is.

Use the second button in the Toolbar (download entire).

Does this issue happen always and only for events and contacts you created directly in the phone ?

the events (in thread history) was done by importing a VSC to phone and then sync (i know its not recommended, but MPE just doesnt show the events after import, so thats the only way i can do it atm). As for the contacts, im not sure where the contact was made.

I didnt know of the Download Entire-function, as for now it looked like it solved it, the phone got . Thanks for help, and thanks for a very fast answer!

Please update to the current version 1.7.1 . Google has changed its API so this Strings/settings are no more used.
