I have used this excellent software for a number of years and often had connection problems but they seem a lot more regular since I change my phone to Huawei / Android.
Sometimes it will connect and sometimes it won't and haven't established a common cause. I have read other topics, I have always had the auto debugging enabled , ADB drivers etc installed (obviously or would never connect). The client recognises a USB connection but fails with the following message. Do I need to stop the Huawei doing something (it appears to connect to a G drive with HiSuite - it just seems to load GIMP !!)
