Rich Communication Services RCS messages not backed up

I've used and loved MPE for years. I recently switched to T-Mobile and did not realize the built in messaging app uses Rich Communication Services RCS messaging opportunistically so some are SMS that can be backed up but some are RCS. Any RCS message won't be backed up by MPE or most other apps of this kind. Google for full details.

I was able to turn off Advanced Messaging by turning off Voice over LTE settings.
I verified that now the messages I send are text messages not RCS "Chat" messages and can be backed up by MPE.
