will not sync via USB

The past two weeks MPE will not sync via USB I have no idea if I did something that created this issue for me. I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 with 4.1.2 installed. I'm using Win8 Pro on my laptop. All was working OK until two weeks ago. It was then I noticed that the PC was not really seeing the phone. Device manager would show the phone when connected but if I clicked on the phone in Windows Explorer it was reported as being an empty folder.

I tried numerous suggested fixes none of which worked. Tonight when talking to Sprint support about the issue I went into Settings > System Update and tried all four options. A couple of updates were applied. After this I could see the contents of the phone in windows explorer but still MPE would not sync to Outlok 2010 via the USB cable. In MPE I changed the setting from USB to auto detect, setup WiFi and now I can sync.

Any idea as to what I need to do to get the sync working via USB?

I also tried to sync via Bluetooth but could not get this working.

Same for me.
Previously on HTC DESIRE and Android 2.3.3, it worked fine.
Now on SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 and Android 4.3, no sync by USB cord or wifi...

If you enabled the storage encryption and your phone is locked by a pattern or Pin code then you have to unlock the phone first.

- enable USB-Debugging
- install the ADB-Drivers for your device

Returned from Android 4.3 to 4.1.2 on my SG3.
MyPhoneExplorer works fine, can record what I want or need, including SMS.
Seems to be a compatibility problem or a bug in A4.3, because this upgrade for a lot of people abd for Samsung is a disaster.

There is inbetween a solution for this issue:
- below of the "USB Debugging" option in the phone there is a option called "Reset trusted USB connections" or similar. Click on this
- try to connect with MyPhoneExplorer
- a security prompt will appear on the phone
- commit the security message and also enable "Always trust"
