Should initial sync of 5000 contacts be taking over 10 hours
I'm afraid to disturb it. This is my first time to use this program. It's now over 10 hours and the progress bar says it's 3/4 through. Before, when i was using a pocket pc and was replacing my contacts after a hard reset it might take 15-30 minutes to put all contacts back on. Is this normal and how long should I expect it to take for a normal sync afterwords? Thanks

One thing I might add to see if it has any bearing is that when I plugged the phone into the USB port it opens a window on the phone for"setting USB" with KIES being selected and "UMS mode only" not selected. I didn't press OK or cancel. I just let them sit there. Could going through KIES be whats slowing it down. I'm very new with this phone and program.
Be aware how long MyPhoneExplorer needs for one contact - if it needs exactly 45 seconds then the connection has inbetween broken and MyPhoneExplorer did not realize this.
If it was not a connection drop: How fast MyPhoneExplorer can create a contact depends on the phones firmware, the transmission itself needs some milliseconds. After all contacts are on the phone the sync should be faster cause there is no need to edit so much contacts on phone the next time, but here you have maybe a second problem: 5000 contacts is a quite huge amount cause the client on phone has to search for changes on eevry sync and this needs also time.

new contact creation
I'm setting up my new Captivate, and contact creation has taken between 1 second and 25 seconds.
I have 1,800 contacts so this is taking some time! In contrast, creating Appointments takes less than 1 second.
At the top of my wishlist would be to make this process faster. But I do not know if this is technically possible.
I have been a user of MPE since March, and want to thank FJ for creating and supporting such a great product.
EDIT: I can understand contact creation taking some time, but now the "Check entry" step is taking about 19 seconds per contact. Are there any known ways to reduce the time needed to do this? Thanks.

MyPhoneExplorer cannot control how fast the contact-database is working on phone, sorry.
The data are cached so this should NOT take 19 seconds, can you reproduce this ?EDIT: I can understand contact creation taking some time, but now the "Check entry" step is taking about 19 seconds per contact. Are there any known ways to reduce the time needed to do this? Thanks.

I have not been able to reproduce the 19 second "check entry" phenomenon (thankfully).
This was only occurring during my issues with initially syncing my Captivate, but have not had this problem at all since. I described this is more detail in this thread: http://www.fjsoft.at/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13298
If for some reason I need to start all over and don't have a TiBu to help, I'll see if I can reproduce what was going on with my initial sync troubles.
