Fixing duplicate appointments and addresses: one solution

First off:
Thanks to FJ and the crew for doeing what Google and MS didn't do: write a vital piece of code linking driod phones directly with outlook files.

My problem: When bidirectionally syncing my phone with Outlook 2010, the MPC-PC interface would shift recurring appointments back one day. This created duplicate appointments in Outlook. Any subsequent bi-directional sync compounded that problem. Add to that, the phone syncing its data with Google and we have 4 copies of one appointment on up to 4 different days.

This was unacceptable as it was confusing and cluttered up Outlook and my phone's calendar.

My first thought: clean up the phone, Outlook, MPE-PC and Google calendar
So....
I deleted the MPE-PC organizer.dat file.
I restored my outlook from a backup.
I then told it to with outlook .. and the recurring events from outlook 2010(32bit) (a copy) show up on the phone ok but in n MPC(pc) one day earlier. Then my phone tries to sync with google calendar.

and....now we have dupes in google calendar and back on the phone.
My next sync draws data from the phone to MPE back to Outlook, bringing dupes back to outlook! This is like an audio feedback loop!

WE FOUND THE CULPRIT!

If you are syncing your phone with outlook using MPE and the phone is also syncing with outlook calendar then you are going to get duplicates

SOLUTION:!!!???

I killed my google calendar (bye bye cloud in the sky) and resync'd from scratch (deleted organizer.dat, rebuilt my O2010 calendar from backup)

No more duplicate duplicates.

....but why recurring events show up a day earlier is beyond me.
As i watched the sync happen, recurring events shows up correct in phone from Outlook but one day earlier in MPE and duplicated one day earlier back to Outlook! It happened with Lent which I set as a 40+ day recurring event.

I guess MPE can't do bi-directional syncing without messing up recurring appointments. As I rarely enter appointments directly into my phone (Android is really a lousy PIM)

Possible Issues to investigate?
NOTE: I am a non-programmer so pardon any ignorant-sounding questions.
Does the program read each device/app and make a list and then do the updates or does it do it one by one device by device? Perhaps it is reading Outlook, changing the phone, then reading the phone and changing MPE, then reading MPE then changing Outlook? That would cause duplicates. As for the dates being wrong, if you are using a binary flag to indicate that the item has been handled, the byte may be going into the date field, not a null field, thereby corrupting the date.

The sync always compares all events from/to Outlook and normally you have get no problems cause recurring events. Please install the current beta which includes some bugfixes for this topic, then try again. Enter this URL in your phones browser: www.fjsoft.at/mpeclient.apk

I used my home PC MPE to add a couple of events to my calendar on my X10 Mini Pro. All okay, extra events appeared soon on my Google calendar.

Tried the same at work. Oh dear. All my personal calendar events were all duplicated in my Google calendar. I can't see any difference between the originals and the duplicates MPE has made.

Also, all events from other calendars I subscribe, e.g. phases of the moon, week numbers, UK public holidays, China public holidays etc, these are also now duplicated into my personal calendar...

I had similar problems when I first used MPE but since then my phone has been reset a couple of times (for updates) and I've made sure the sync setting in MPE is "Only MyPhoneExplorer" and I've used MPE on home PC a couple of times since, without issue, but as soon as I used it at work I have a really messed up Google calendar.

Using MPE 1.8.0 in both places, via WiFi and Windows 7 64bit at home, via USB and XP Windows SP3 at work.

I'm now afraid of ever using MPE to create, edit or delete calendar entries, since sync can cause such problems.

The problem is that sync to Only MPE doesn't offer any dialogue or confirmation - we need to be able to trust it not to make duplicates etc.

Any suggestions how to sync phone calendar to MPW much more safely?

MyPhoneExplorer does not creates duplicates, the problem with duplicates appears mostly when other sync-providers hang in (f.e. sync with Google). If you use MyPhoneExplorer on diffrent PCs with the same phone then its recommened to press the Button "Download entire" from time to time

I think MyPhoneExplorer created duplicates in the phone, and these duplicates were then sync'd to Google. Problem only occurred after editing in MPE and hitting sync. I use no other sync tools (except the phone itself) and I have MPE set to sync "Only in MyPhoneExplorer". That's what happened at home, so I manually tidied my Google calendar (again...).

The next, and worst duplication happened at work after I used the "Download entire" button, because I'd already guessed that's what I should do on when moving to another PC! After "Download entire"the MPE organiser appeared almost entirely empty, even though my phone calendar was quite busy. So I tried MPE "Sync" button. That's when pretty much everything got duplicated, from all calendars into my personal calendar.

On the phone I have Sony Ericsson (Sync ML) sync enabled for Contacts and Calendar, and I also have Google sync enabled for Contacts, Mail and Calendar.

The X10 Mini Pro calendar works fine this way - so long as I never sync in MPE...

Which version of the client you are using ?

Sorry, I can't say remember which version of the Android client I was using when it happened. Until now I always used the latest client from the Market.

After reading the above post I downloaded the beta client from above link (1.0.7 beta 33). Doesn't quite fit my (portrait QVGA) screen height, but it has some interesting new options. However, I haven't dared synchronise MPE calendar since previous mishaps using previous client...

Download entire seems to be behaving weird (and very slowly) with MPE 1.8.1 and client 1.0.7 from the Market with SE X10 Mini Pro, Windows XP SP3...

1st press of Download entire deleted all events from MPE

2nd press of Download entire downloaded all phone (google) events from any calendars enabled in the client settings

3rd press of Download entire deleted all events from MPE, again.

And so on, restore all, then delete all, etc...

I presume this is not intended behaviour?

I'm still afraid to try Synchronise. Does it now offer confirmation dialogue, like for Sync to Outlook etc, or does it still create events with no manual control (risking global duplication)?

As long as you get a empty database in MPE after "Download entire" its really riskfully to sync. Please post the logfile when you have empty database in MPE after "Download entire", so i can view maybe a error-report from client

Weird. Today "Download entire" works perfectly, over and over again. Whether I have one or many calendars enabled - it works and does exactly what is expected.

I didn't do any s/w updates on phone or PC since the previous problem.
Nothing has changed, except I've restarted the phone a couple of times.

There have been a lot of update notices recently, so maybe SE's latest releases haven't been very stable and I should do an update soon?

Still not sure if I should risk a "Synchronise" though. I presume there is still no confirmation, is that right?

Well, having manually tidied 2011 (to remove all those cross-calendar duplicates) I decided it was time to sort out all the duplicated entries in 2012-2013 too.

I dared to do the deletes in MPE calendar, plus some edits, and then synchronise. Phew... it worked. Phone warned about too many deletes, and then took many minutes to sync its changes to my google calendar, but now, finally, I think all is well.

I don't know what's changed, maybe it's the new client and new MPE (or the re-booted phone?), but now I think I can safely use MPE to edit and Synchronise the phone calendar again...

Thank you for continuing to improve MPE.

I did a download entire and then a sync and dates were changed on appointments even though they had not been edited between MPE updates. In my case, it only seems to occur on "all day" events like birthdays. I am using MPE 1.8.1, Win7, Outlook 2010, HTC Evo, Droid 2.2. I can send copies of the sync logs.

I just recently (this week) discovered this application and I find it very useful. I have about given up on syncing with it to Outlook as I need to do this both at home and at the office and it seems to throw duplicates, move event times by one hour, etc.. So, I am syncing just to MPE on the desktop and it seems to be doing fine.

One problem even after today's update to client 1.0.9 is that the desktop still does not show recurring events and, after syncing to the phone, moves the event back one day. Example: recurring event set for 5/19 and 5/20. Sync to phone and event is stored correctly on phone but then shows on desktop as single event on 5/18.

I hope you can fix this as I really am beginning to like it.

Fixed already, please update the client throught market
