Dropping USB connection on getting contacts from phone...

As the subject says I have no problem except when trying to get the list of contacts from the phone.

I plugin the phone and connect with no problems.
But when I ask to download the contact list from the phone it writes "Initiating sync..." Then I can see that the icon on the phone turns grey and after a while it returns the error: "Connection to phone not possible!"

OS: Win 7 64 bit
Phone Wildfire (rooted and modded)

Reinstalled both the phone and windows client and installed the newest version of phone so it is now 1.0.6 but it still doesn't work.

Doesn't anyone has any ideas?

After having updated I went in to settings and changed the setting "Standby mode on active connection" to "Avoid Standby-Mode".

I also made other changes but that was only related to where to make the changes and what to sync so I only update the phone and my google account.
