Problems get worse and worse

I attempted to sync my phone today, and for the first time in nearly 2 years it would not connect properly through the usb.

I went through all the usb set up tasks over again, no joy.

I decided to try updating to 1.8.5.

When I started installation, it tried to install the conduit search engine (which I consider a virus since I don't want it and there is no way to decline it).

Is there a downloadable installation file that does not have conduit in it? OR do I now have to start all over again trying to find software that will reliably sync my Android phone without using the cloud?

It must be possible to decline the offered ad software. If this is not the case -> show me a screenshot of the installer.

Does the connection work now ?
