I understand that you want to make money but installing the Wajam crap with your product is inexcusable. It hijacked all of my browser windows and other programs then forced them all to close without saving data which caused me to loose hours worth of work.

Now I have to wonder if it installed some kind of spyware/virus. Your company and products have zero credibility with me now.

Now I am going to waste hours scanning my systems to see what other malware your installer program installed.

Also, I declined all 3rd-party add-ons when I installed MyPhoneExplorer.

I would pay money for a pro version of the App on the Play Store that would let me download a desktop version without all of the crappy toolbars, malware and 3rd-party apps that the Desktop version installs.

I've been using your tooll for over a year and have shared with work assciates as well as customers ...great tool.

Received a new PC last week and downloaded latest version and didn't select any of the add-on components and it highjacked I.E. and loaded other malware. Wasted a lot of time cleaning this mess up.

I understand this an ad-supported application but really bad form on your part. I'll go back to MyMobiler and/or find a reliable pay app moving forward too bad you have a nice tool.

I am sorry for your problems and i'll check Wajam and ban them if they are too aggressive.

But one thing should be clear: If you click on "Decline" or "Skip" then NO additional software is installed. I tried this many times when users thought that something was installed even they declined it. I never could reproduce such issue. If you click Next, Next, next without looking at the screen then the tools are installed - they are Opt-Out.

Thanks for the follow-up. Maybe I'm confused and was in a rush ...selected next, next, next, finish but I don't believe so. Either way, what ever was loaded was harsh, I sucessfully uni-installed two programs but still had issues. End result, backed up data (Explorer only MS app running), re-imaged and restored data fixed the issue. Gladly purchase on Play Store or donate but it's tough to trust this app after wasting a day getting my PC back to where it was prior to installing. Back to running ASM for screen share function.

Hi,

I have to say that I just had the same issue that described above.
I downloaded the MyPhoneExplorer installer from here:
http://www.fosshub.com/MyPhoneExplorer.html

And despite of reading carefully every screens of the installer to check for unwanted software or installing option, my Avira anti-virus found a threat during the installation process while a Wajam web-page has been opened by itself and then my browser crashed at the end of the installation process.

And the worse thing is this Wajam malware that has been installed without any screen asking if I want it or not!
I even ran the installer a second time to be sure that I didn't miss the opt-out screen, and I had the same result again: anti-virus alert, etc, without any opt-out screen.

I can upload screenshots or even the installer file if you don't believe me.
You should fix this issue because it really destroys all the credibility of your software.

I've been using MPE since it was running only for Sony Ericsson phones and I think you did a great job with it, so please don't waste everything with such bad practice of installing malwares with your software...

Regards,
Yann

FJ,

I've had similar experiences to ballew, JKeim and Yann and broadly share their view on the matter.

I've been using MPE since the Sony Ericsson days. It's an excellent piece of software that has obviously entailed a great deal of work. I haven't yet found an alternative that does all the things your software does. The custom file synchronization, for example, seems unique to your software.

Like Yann I recently updgraded MPE via http://www.fosshub.com/. I'm like JKeim ...

JKeim hat Folgendes geschrieben:

The short of it is that I've ended up with some kind of insidious browser hijacking malware that pops up with a message to http//*.ziqyxs.com. I've already spent some hours running several anti malware programs to collect the relevant logs for guidance from malware experts.

But you deserve compensation for the work.

I'd suggest you either ...

A. Have two download paths: A completely free path; and a donation path (if you don't want to specify a fixed price); or
B. A donation path only.

... where no possible download path results in any bundling of malware, no matter what a user does.

I'd also suggest redesigning your download page to make these options (or even the current options) much clearer.

You ought not sully your reputation by associating yourself with the whole malware, spyware, adware industry.

Thanks for your development efforts over the years.

I don't understand why some get these viruses and malware from installing MPE. Because of these types of experiences and because of some reviews on the the Play store I've been very scared every time I've installed the client on my PC. Because of this I usually backup my computer immediately before the install. However, for both 1.85 and 1.86 I've never had any negative issues. When I installed 1.86 I did not see any opt-out checks for any additional software. I ran a malwarebytes virus scan in safe mode after installation and didn't find any issues.

I wonder if the website itself is sometimes highjacked by malware that gets installed via a "drive-by" download? That would make the timing appear that the virus came along with MPE.

For what it's worth, I've installed MPE recently and I've not experienced anything like this. The installation procedure does require some navigation to ensure that nothing extra is added, but if everything is selected off I don't find anything else on my PC after the installation, and no websites etc pop up during the procedure.

bsteph10 and Lascaille, from another forum looking into fosshub specifically there was mention of two possible reasons why some folk would get malware and others would not:

  • When the fosshub installer attempts to install malware, so the allegation goes, it first attempts a connection back to a home server. If it can't reach home then no malware is installed. So the thinking is that, some machines/users have outbound ports that block fosshub. Other machines/users aren't so lucky or vigilant.
  • Sometimes the fosshub installer never even attempts to install malware. This appears random.

I don't have sources to hand to backup those allegations. But we have enough evidence in this thread, taking everyone at their word, to see that whatever the precise reasons, fosshub sometimes installs malware on user's machines.

Please don't blame Foshub. Fosshub is only a download hoster for my setup - not more and not less. The setup packages of MyPhoneExplorer are always digitally signed - check this to ensure that the setupfile itself is not infected.

The offer screens are post loaded from my promotion partner during the setup so if you have no internet connection or also if there is a technical issue with my promotion partner then you will see no offer screen and sure - nothing additional is installed in this case.
