Apparently AVG is not on the list (see my link), but Fortinet and TrendMicro is.

I get the same warning with Eset NOD and the program is always noted as questionable. I am wondering whether it is causing Outlook 2010 to freeze. NOT the program itself, but the "harmless" malware.
I certainly recognize the developer's need to earn income from this very successful program. That is why I made a donation! I don't think it's right that I should have made a donation and still have arguments with my AV program about the files on my computer.

It's good to be vigilant, but OpenCandy is simply an added part of the installer that OFFERS the OPTION to install additional software such as browser search bars, etc. It essentially does NOTHING else & has NO IMPACT on the functioning of MyPhoneExplorer or Outlook. As far as I'm aware, OpenCandy exists in the installer & nowhere else, so it makes no changes to your system of its own.
Of course, if someone blindly clicks "yes" or "allow" or whatever to every prompt of the installer without reading first, they might inadvertently install some additional software they don't want or didn't intend to, and that software MIGHT track their surfing or something to provide targeted ads. It MAY also be that OpenCandy targets what it offers based on what software is already installed. THOSE are the reasons why a FEW antivirus vendors tag OpenCandy as undesirable. However, that would STILL have NOTHING to do with how MyPhoneExplorer or Outlook function. This is the price of free software.
Folks can either take my word for it, or google, read, and learn on their own. |
