Wifi Sporadic and unreliable

I have the latest Android version client and latest version MPE. Once in a while the WiFi connection works but most often it does not. I see this message more often than not: "Connection to phone could not be established; Failed to obtain the IP address of the phone". When it does connect, and I start a sync operation, it ALWAYS loses the connection during the sync. I have a PIN number shared between the two. I have had precious few good syncs.

Both the phone and the computer are successfully connected to the same router and both phone and computer have full access to the internet from that same router. I have tried two different routers in two different locations and I get the same behavior from both.

I would LOVE to use Wifi to sync and copy files but it is just not reliable. Can someone help with this? Will send log file next...

Restart your phone and WiFi Router. In the settings of the client you should enable "Avoid standby" -> then try again and tell me the results

I restarted router and phone and restarted MPE. When I start client on phone (checked that Avoid Standby was ticked), the connection bar flashes as if it is connecting (automatically) but a balloon pops up in the notification area saying "failed to connect to the phone" or something to that effect.

If I then hit F1 to connect, it connects immediately. I am then able to manipulate SMS messages, and other lightweight things. However, when I try and copy files (using a File Sync job) over the connection, it hangs after only about 1/3 files copied. Error message "SetPath failed: \sdcard\Media\audio\Recordings\ OBEX Errorcode: 00 - Phone didn't answer, Timeout" I click OK and another error message appears "Connection to phone not possible!" I click OK on that and it is still showing 1/3 files copied bar, then repeats sequence of errors.

I noticed that the phone rebooted itself for some reason during the last error messages. I hadn't touched it at all. I have no applications that would automatically reboot. Wonder what caused the reboot?

I restarted client after the phone rebooted and of course the file transfer did not pick up and start so I had to just abort it. I pressed F1 and it said "Connection to phone not possible!" but the second time I pressed F1 it connected. I ran the file download and it completed this time, with only the files it hadn't copied the first round. Total files 9MB. First time it copied 3MB, the second time it copied 6MB.

Am I doing something wrong? Is this normal behaviour? How can I make MPE work with my new phone seamlessly via WiFi as it did with Bluetooth?

FJ, if you could tell me what is causing this behaviour, it may help me to work within the limitations of this technology. For example, if it has to do with IP address conflicts or caching, at least I could work with that...

Tried dragging and dropping files onto file list in MPE whilst connected via WiFi. It copied a few files and then stopped giving the same errors as above. Only this time, when trying to reconnect, it says Searching For WiFi-IP of phone" and never finds it. The IP of the phone has not changed as far as I can see.

Frustrating this is.

Yes, USB shows same error message. It connects and I can see files using Windows Explorer but when I set MPE to USB and press F1, I get same error message "Connection to phone could not be established, Phone could not be identified." Same with Autodetect. Same with Bluetooth.

WiFi does not work, Bluetooth does not work and USB does not work in MPE with this phone. Bluetooth and US worked beautifully with the old SE W580i but MPE does not work with this Android phone xperia x10 mini pro.

Please help.

Eventually, USB did work, but I did nothing to allow it to work. Does MPE require minutes for connections to take hold (like 10 minutes?)

Even though I could download SMS and see folder structures, I could not go into a folder in MPE. I got "SetPath failed: \sdcard\... OBEX Errorcode: C4 - Not Found" but I can see the folder in Windows Explorer (I did not have windows explorer running while I checked folders in MPE.)

So USB works, partially with MPE. What can I do to fix this?

FJ, do my answers give you any clues as to why this is not working? I don't know what to do to make it work. I tried fixed IP but MPE will not stay connected to the phone via Wifi.

I just downloaded the software today and am having the same problem. I was able to sync everything between the computer and phone over WiFi just fine multiple times. Then I tried to transfer 1 GiB of files to the SD card using this program. After about 100 MiB the program lost connection. (The avoid standby was not enabled.) After this, and after enabling avoid standby option, the software continues to have issues connecting via WiFi for any sync feature, not just transferring files. Any help is appreciated.

Android 2.3.5. Windows 7 x64.

FJ, for the first time since I bought this phone I was able to transfer a number of large files without dropping the connection during mid-transfer! It stayed connected through various sync and other forms of file movement over the wireless network. Thank you!

It seems to be working after some limited trials, but I will keep trying and let you know how this goes. So far so good! Thanks so much. Whatever you did in the latest beta seems to work.

I have downloaded the beta software to fix my MPE not staying connected. I can connect fine but after about 30 seconds it disconnects. It does stay connected through an entire upload of audiobooks though and it wouldn't do that before. I have avoid standby on. Any other ideas on why it's not staying connected?
