Great program! Recently PayPal’d a donation. This is my first post, and concerns updating.
By way of background, about 1 week ago, I installed MPE on both my android smartphones; one cellphone (HTC One V) has Ice Cream Sandwich (latest version) with Sense 4.0 and the other cellphone (Galaxy Nexus direct from Google) has stock Jelly Bean (latest version). MPE appears to work fine on each cellphone; I can “sync” with each phone, from my PC’s MPE software, using a USB cable connection.
MPE is my first “app” installed on each cell phone. I didn’t download the MPE Client on each phone from Google Play store but instead simply downloaded MPE from this website and then installed it on my PC and then I believe the MPE client (Ver. 1.0.17) was installed on each cellphone when I connected each to my PC, via a USB cable, while MPE was running.
I just discovered, from surfing the MPE website:
1. MPE as installed on my PC (OS is Windows XP Pro - SP3) is Version 1.8.2; however Version 1.8.3 is now available for download.
2. The MPE Client” on each of my cell phones is Version 1.0.17; however Version 1.0.20 is now available on Google Play.
My questions are:
1. As to my MPE Client Ver. 1.0.17, installed on each cellphone (one with ICS, one with JB), should I “uninstall” MPE 1.0.17 (from the client’s “app info” page) from each cellphone, and then install MPE Client Ver. 1.0.20 from Google Play, for each cellphone? Or can I simply “install” MPE Client Ver. 1.0.20 and “skip” the step of uninstalling MPE Client Ver 1.0.17, on each cellphone?
2. As to my MPE software installed on my PC, should I “uninstall” MPE Version 1.8.2, and then install Version 1.8.3? Or can I simply install Version 1.8.3 “over” Version 1.8.2?
It is possible that by downloading MPE 1.8.3 and launching the setup file, that the installation routine will “find” the existing path of MPE Ver. 1.8.2, and update the existing files.
But if the setup routine doesn’t automatically “find” the existing MPE Ver. 1.8.2 installation’s path, I can always “point” the new installation to the same “folder” now being used for the existing MPE Ver. 1.8.2 installation, so that Ver. 1.8.3 is installed “over” Ver. 1.8.2.
I apologize for this long post but thought it best to err on the side of giving the complete picture. Thanks. Gopher
Updating Procedure ?'s
1. You should never uninstall the client in case you want to update and you have no problems with the client. The client holds a sync history, tasks and notes. Those data would be deleted during uninstall. The client is backward compatible, its no problem to use f.e. Desktop v1.8.1 with the newest client 1.0.20. On the other side the Desktop-Version will need a minimum version of the client (for 1.8.3 i set it to minimum Client 1.0.20). When you connect your phone with 1.8.3 then MPE will detect that the client is outdated and he will update automatically the client on the phone.
2. Just run the setup, it will detect the previous installation and will do a update.
2. Just run the setup, it will detect the previous installation and will do a update.
This should not happen, but in the case that the setup does not locate the old path you can do a "over install"But if the setup routine doesn’t automatically “find” the existing MPE Ver. 1.8.2 installation’s path, I can always “point” the new installation to the same “folder” now being used for the existing MPE Ver. 1.8.2 installation, so that Ver. 1.8.3 is installed “over” Ver. 1.8.2.
