Fail to connect/sync Samsung Galaxy S2 (GS2, Android)

Installed MPE 8.1 under win XP.
Also installed Samsung Kies.
Connected USB cable. The phone shows 'connected', with a note to press home key if I want to get out of Samsung Kies.
On the taskbar of the PC I got a note that there's a COM connection to MPE, and after a while I see the MPE icon showing 'Connected'

Looking at MPE 'Other' tab, I see no information of my cell-phone in the Profile, Monitor or Memory Status.
when trying to sync contacts or organizer, I'm getting an error message: Obex protoco could not be initialized OBEX Error: ERROR.

What's the reason for this? How can I solve it?

have you set the USB - Debugging and installed Kies first (or at least the ADB drivers)?
In SGS2 the USB-Debugging is in a little different location (translating to english, may be different: Home Page -> Settings -> Application -> Development services)

You have to select also "Android based phone" in the settings
