HTC 3G Slide = replacement phone cannot connect

Beitrag von glenthecomputerguy »

 I've not been able to connect after an initial connection of my replacement phone - HTC (MyTouch) 3G Slide via USB -

Error message: Connection to device could not be established

-------------------------------------------------------------------
---- sequence of events prior to above error message ----
-------------------------------------------------------------------
1) I recieved a replacement phone body for a 'broken' phone (the ringer stopped working after 3 months) Tmobile's MyTouch 3G Slide

2) Noticed that the Firmware is 2.1-update1 (FWIW: 'broken' phone was not the updated version)

3) I copied ALL data from the SD card in 'broken' phone onto my PC HDD as a backup.

4) I installed and ran MyPhoneExplorer on the PC and the "client" on the 'broken' phone and synchronized.

***WONDERFUL JOB! I'm EXTREMELY HAPPY to have found this software! I've already donated $$$ for this s/w. THANKS!***

5) I removed the SD card & sim from 'broken' phone and placed them in the replacement phone.

6) I installed MyPhoneExplorer "client" on the replacement phone.

7) I ran an initial sync of MyPhoneExplorer with no problem - now I have TWO sets of Calendar Items and Contact lists showing within the PC's MyPhoneExplorer

8) After the synch (#7) I noticed 2 COMPLETE lists (one for each phone: 'broken' and replacment) of both Contacts & Calendar events within MyPhoneExplorer's window.

9) The replacement phone showed an EMPTY Calendar!

10) I've tried switching from one PC-referenced User ('broken' phone and replacement phone) to try to synch the Calendar data, but could not.

11) I don't recall anything that would have caused the Error message: Connection to device could not be established

12) I've just now tried resetting the replacement phone to Factory Settings and reinstalling MyPhoneExplorer client and resynching ... but I still get the error message. *AND* now the Contacts list is blank (as well as the Calendar) on the replacement phone.

The phone's SD card is visible via the USB connection.
The USB connection is set to "Disk Drive" (there is no "USB" option, only "Charge only" or "Sync" or "Disk Drive")

What can I do? What do you suggest???
Thank you very, very much!

Glen the Computer Guy

- Choose "Charge only" mode
- ensure that Settings-Applications-Development-USB Debugging is enabled in the phone
- ensure that you have installed the ADB-Drivers for your phone on PC
- maybe you should install the current beta of the client, it contains many bugfixes. Browse on phone to this url: www.fjsoft.at/mpeclient.apk

Thank you, FJ, for your timely, informative, and courteous reply! :o

I followed your instructions (all but installing the "ADB-Drivers" since I did not know how to do that and the error message did not appear when I ran MPE.)

All my phone's contact info arrived successfully (based on MPE's list) onto the replacement phone. YIPPEE!!

However ... the Calendar did not get downloaded to the phone. ... The MPE shows ALL my Calendar events within it. Strange.

Can you possibly help with this, too?

thank you again! You've been most, MOST helpful!!!

Sincerely,

Thank you again, FJ, for the last bit of information to try to get my calendar showing up.

Before I received your reply I had a hunch about something and tried it. I tried synchronizing the 'broken' phone's backup of the Calendar entries on my PC (only the Calendar, not the Phone entries) that I had created via the MPE Client installed on it before I switched to the replacement. *That* worked out nicely! I now have my Calendar events nicely tucked away on my replacement phone!

So, I'm all set now! ...

I am SO grateful for your software *and* the diligence of your attention to questions and help here in the forum. You *must* be working "overtime" with all this. Wish I could help somehow.

I've another question regarding "synchronizing" and Outlook, but I should put it in another topic as it might also be helpful to others.

Again, MUCH thanks for your time/help!

Yes, you got it ;-) Actually i come home on 22:00 and then i have to reply 30 Threads in Forum and 20 emails, so i'm very busy at the moment. Probably the biggest help for me at the moment: To have some users which also answer question in the forum. I know that there are often problems which cannot be dealed by a "normal" user but there are also often "standard" questions which are easy to answer. So i would be glad if you could answer a problem from time to time here (if you feel you can answer)

FJ, how can we start this? That is, I'd like to offer my help (as you had indicated you would be willing to accept from me a few days ago)? ... I have sent you an email with more info.

Awaiting your reply. (knowing you've got a list of things to do, more importantly?, for others' needs!)
