calendar sync seems to produce no items in phone calendar

Hi there,
I'm using Android froyo 2.2.1. From the computer side of things the sync goes ahead and seems to complete - saw 'added item' in sync log. But when you go to the calendar on the phone there is nothing there... indeed i did another sync cause i thought something might have just gone wrong on that one and myphoneexplorer came up with a message saying that there were so items in the calendar on the phone and asked if i wanted to do a full sync.

Is there something not working with 2.2.1 yet?
I haven't installed any other calendar apps on the phone.

Create first a appointment on phone, its a known bug in client.

ok giving it a go.
Any chance categories on calendar items and contacts can be preserved? Is that a field for items in the android contacts and calendar?

As far as i know there is no categories-field on phone
