Encrypted backup file wont restore

Beitrag von tekman »

I've been using Myphone explorer for ages now but I ran into a problem with another program and had to reinstall windows.
I had Myphone explorer installed on another partition other than C and naturally I needed to reinstall it.
I wanted to restore my archived SMS messages but I get an error message stating the selected backup was created with another type of phone. This is entirely untrue, as I'm using the same handset. I've got several years worth of txt messages archived and I can't access them. Can anyone help me solve this annoying conundrum please

Are the messages in the archive ? What shows the backup-dialog. How many items are shown for "SMS-Archive" ?

Like I said I just try to restore the encrypted backup and it throws up the message regarding the wrong phone is connected trying to restore the backup which as I also stated is incorrect. All my archived backups contain archived text messages and my contact lists. When I get past the wrong phone message none of the boxes are ticked yet the restore button becomes available. Click on this and nothing happens other than a message regarding the contents may be corrupted because I'm not using the original handset. It's like there isn't anything in the backups to restore. I've got several years worth of data in these backups

Just to let you know I've solved my dilemma but not the original problem.
I'll explain. I had a problem with one application on my pc the other day that wouldn't reinstall so I decided to take a ghost image of my C drive and then install a fresh copy of XP pro. Myphone explorer is on my G partition which is another internal hard drive. The references to your program in application data folder on C drive were therefore lost so a reinstallation of Myphone explorer was needed which created a new set of DAT files.
I recovered the SMSarchive.dat from my ghost image and was therefore able to restore my 2165 sms messages once more so on that note I'm pleased. I have since backed these up again with and without encrpytion and restored both versions successfully.
This doesn't explain why the old encrypted backups didn't work upon attempted restore or does it?
in future when backing up I'm creating an archived rar version for extra security

The backup-file is never encrypted. Can you send me the problematic Backupfile zipped via email ? Then i can take a look at it whats wrong with it.

The encryption I refer to relates to an entry under the Advanced 2 section in settings "Encrypt phone data saved on computer" and I don't really want to email you the troublesome files as they contain personal data.
It looks like it uses windows built in encryption but I can't be certain as this isn't my area

No problem - i understand your position.

The setting ou spoke about encrypts the *.dat-Files on the harddrive but a created Backup (*mpb) gets never encrypted. And yes, MPE uses the inbuild Crypto-APIs of Windows.
