Support for .cah files

Beitrag von Siniz »

Hi,

I recently used Sony Ericsson PC Suite to backup my sms archive. I then later realized (after all my messages was gone from the phone) that there is no way to restore them (stupid if you ask me). I still have the copies of the sms messages on my harddrive though. They are all saved as .txt files. But the txt files only contain the actual message. A .cah file is also saved along with all the .txt files. This .cah file keeps information on which sms is from whom and when it was sent/received.

I was basically wondering if there is a chance you could add support to MyPhoneExplorer to read .cah and .txt files to import SMS messages back to the Sony Ericsson phone. (it is a w595, but I don't think that is relevant to this topic).

.cah files

I have downloaded the current beta, but I cannot find how it recognizes the .cah files. I go to the archive folder, right click, choose import, but .cah file extension is not recognized there.

Please help.

Great software by the way.

Kind regard,
turhan

If it works you'll find a seperate contextmenu-entry called like "Import from PC-Suite-Archive". Check in Menu-Extras-About if you see the text "nightly" right of the version. This means that you are working on a beta-version.

I'm using the latest nightly build and I can't see this option either, not that I need to use it but I was just looking.

I do like the new function where the emoticons are images rather than text though ... one thing , I notice that this :-P works if done with a capital 'P' but not with a lowercase 'p' ... this means that messages from at least one of my friends do not render properly

Are your files in the original location ?
MyPhoneExplorer searches the *.cah-Files (and also the *.txt-Files) in the folder C:\Users\<user>\Documents\Sony Ericsson\Sony Ericsson PC Suite\ and its subfolders. I will fix the thing with the p in smilies

Hello FJ,

.cah files are taken care of. I have yet another question, though.

A different version of Sony Ericsson PC Suite did not use .cah files, but num, ums and sms extensions. The file names are like "rcv0000a.num". I don't remember the version, but I am sure it was PC Suite. I cannot find these extensions anywhere in the internet.

The problem is they are very different from cah/txt arrangement. Do you also have a solution for that?

Kind regards..

PS: If you would like to see those files, I can copy/paste them here... Or send through email.

This files cannot be handled, but i don't think that is really needed to implement them. At least since PC-Suite v5 i know for sure that *.cah and *.txt Files are used. The problem with the messages in the PC-Suite which cannot be transfered back to phone appeared in the last months - i think since PC-Suite v5.

Hi, I have been googling how to open my old SMS archive files and eventually I came across this page.

I have a queue.cah file and a folder.dat file created by an old version of Sony Ericsson PC Companion.

I tried downloading MyPhoneExplorer but it doesn't seem to be able to open these. Is there an older version that will open them?

Thanks
