Alsways Bluetooth - much faster.
Vie Bluetooth you have also more services like Headset and so on. The filetransfer with infrared is about 7 KB/s, with Bluetooth 40-70KB/s

Thanks! So it's Bluetooth, then. Any recommendations? What's best (if there is a difference between them) with regard to MPE?

To be honest: Infrared is a littlebit easier to handle cause you don't have to pair the devices. But in all other tasks Bluetooth is better. Please note: On Infrared the phone has to be in range of 20cm. If your son makes a call he has to pull up the phone and so the connection is lost.

Thanks for this information. But back to Bluetooth: can I buy any Bluetooth device or are there better / worse ones in relation to MPE? I'm a real Otto when it comes to these matters so I'm grateful for any help I can get. I've got savvy friends who can help me connecting the device to MPE, though.

Its no matter from which company the Bluetooth-Stick comes. The important thing is which Bluetooth-Software is delivered. If you have only one Phone which is handled throught bluetooth then i think WIDCOMM would be recommened. Bluesoleil is also OK (the diffrence is: WIDCOMM creates only one virtual COM-Port for all devices, Bluesoleil creates a seperate Port per device).

Last month i bought a new stick and the Software which was delivered was from Toshiba - thats not a good software in my opinion.

Besides this the Microsoft-Internal Bluetoothstack (avaiable since WinXP SP2) supports also the most BT-Sticks but the BT-Stack from Microsoft is not so good as Bluesoleil or Widcomm in my opinion.
