Bug report: Notes-not sync but replace/destroy (!)

Beitrag von ferrante »

Hi FJ, hi guys, :)

this is a bit nasty bug-When you use Notes section in your mobile, when you make changes either in MPE or the mobile, they do not get syncronized, but instead brute-force replaced.

I lost few in the process.

So in my experience at this point it's dangerous to try syncing notes.

Best regards :)

Bruteforce-repaced ?
I dont know what you are meaning with this. Please explain the problem a littlebit better - where get the notes overwritten ? In MPE or in the phone ?

Please note: if you edit a note in myPhoneExplorer then MPE has on Sync always the first priority for sync - even if the the item was also edited in the phone.

Hi FJ,

First- I was happy to see notes section in MPE 1.7.0

For the details- there was too many situations I was into to keep track of the details. It seemed that upon sync MPE wiped newly edited notes from the mobile with the old ones that were in MPE.

There seemed not to have any entry checking/warnings.

For the exact details, I must confirm all of the abovementioned again with an experiment and let you know how exactly the unwanted outcome happens.

Ok, please take a look at the edited-icon in the list of MPE. If this flag is set then MPE will always overwrite the item in the phone

Feedback on sync notes.Sync alright, download entire destroys

Beitrag von ferrante »

Hi FJ,

I made thorough testing and here are the results:

For "Download entire" (arrow down icon):

This has warning requester-Good!

-------Notes Sync icon:--------

Case 1.-One side Add test: (You ADD NEW note in MPE, then ADD another new note in SE mobile phone, then syncronize):

Result: GREAT, it works like a charm :)

-----------------
Case 2.-One-sided EDIT TEST: (You EDIT one note in MPE, and Another one in SE mobile phone, then Syncronize):

result: All ok :)
-----------------
Case 3.- Both sides CONFLICTING EDIT test: (You edit one note FIRST in MPE, THEN in the mobile phone, THEN Synchronize- afterwards you FIRST edit in mobile, THEN in MPE.

result: MPE overwrites file edited in mobile phone no matter what was first edited file.

Conclusion: Thas way, if you even touched one letter in MPE, you WILL lose that particular Mobile note data done in the most important moments: IN-Field Quick memos done with mobile phone as a replacement for paper and pen. (!)
So for now workaround for myself is to forget about editing old notes (you update frequently in-field), in MPE.

Suggestion: File Date tracking and/or file content check should be made in order to prevent data loss, ideally: The same principle (and maybe code) used in calendar conflict requester, showing mobile and MPE side-by-side and letting user copy-paste final note from the two conflicting ones.
..
Feature request: Pls also include Notes to Archive Database. for tasks its regulated via Google calendar, but Notes is another thing.

Best Regards
FJ

Its technically not possible to find out when the note was edited in the phone, so its also not possible to create conflict-less sync. But i don't think its a problem - you have the edited-icon in MyPhoneExplorer and if you see this you'll know that MPE has the first priority. I have this priority-managment in myPhoneExplorer since the first release and up to yet nobody had problems with this logic.

Notes-Archiv - will be not implemented. I will add Notes-sync with Outlook, then the notes can be archived in Outlook.
