When restoring a backup I've noticed the call history was not moved over. Is this normal?
Maybe it's not necessary to restore a backup (when switching laptops) and instead I just have to move over some .dat files?
Here's my full story:
I switched over from laptop 1 (running WinXP and MyPhoneExplorer 1.6.3) to laptop 2 (running Vista and MyPhoneExplorer 1.6.6). On laptop 1 I created a backup which I tried to restore on laptop 2. This failed with the error stating that I was using another phone (which is not true). I installed the old version (MyPhoneExplorer 1.5.9) on laptop 2 on Vista and could restore the backup. There were some errors about 8 slots that were needed (and I only had 1 or 2 available), but everything seems to be fine except for the call history that was not moved over.
FYI: I've made a donation a year ago for this great software!
Ok, I sorted it out myself. If you're switching computers, do the following:
1. Copy all the .dat files from your old computer (they're somewhere in the users/applicationdata/myphoneexplorer/ folder).
2. Install MPE (preferably the same version) on your new computer. MPE will automatically update its database (=create .dat files) with your phone's contacts. Don't bother about this.
3. Locate the newly created .dat files (you can find the path in MPE > File > Options > Advanced 2). Actually I had to change this path because I couldn't locate the folder and .dat files which were probably hidden by Vista.
3. Create a backup (send to > zip) of those .dat files (just in case...).
4. Overwrite the .dat files with the .dat files of your old computer.
5. Exit and start MPE.
6. Hit synchronize to retrieve the latest changes from your phone.
