Belkin Dongle and Widcomm Stack

If anyone has a Belkin dongle, using the Widcomm stack, they may have some issues. Here's what I've found so far.

• Stack doesn't always initiate when inserting the dongle
  Stack sometimes crashes when removing the dongle
  Stack sometimes crashes when re-inserting the dongle
  Stack sometimes stops working, or loses track of the dongle

Here's the trick/key:

• It doesn't seem to be anything to do with MPE
  You can manually restart a badly behaving stack without rebooting MPE, or the computer
  Sometimes you must 'connect' to the phone (F1) before you can synch anything

AFAIk the Widcomm-Software is very stable and i recommened it to many people. Maybe a softwareupdate will help.

But anyway - thank you for this information. It can help me to support other users.

There were also a batch of bad Belkin dongles in either 2005 or 2006. Any that have a serial number ending in -5I might fail to work at all. I happen to have one of the bad ones, contacted Belkin via their website, got a replacement for free :)
