Signal quality...

Beitrag von wlserwis »

Signal quality (in my t630):

19% -61dBm
23 -63
25 -65
32 -69
35 -71
39 -73

ect.

Strange...
Better signal in percent = lower in dBm...?
No, inversely! I'm sure.

Please search for it at Wikipedia - there you'll find the answer why a specific dB-Range gets in the negative range

Correctly is:
Lower signal - lower (more negative!) dBm and lower percent.
Higher signal - higher (less negative!) dBm and higher percent.

But MPE know somthing different, i see, hahaha :D
Lower signal - higher (less negative!) dBm and lower percent!
Higher signal - lower (more negative!) dBm and higher percent!

See the difference? In MPE only indication in percent is correct..

Is there anything you didn't understand in this phrase ? Look at Wikipedia, there you'll see a list.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DBm

Also you can take a look at the developerguidelines of SE, there you'll see also some examples what means good signal and bad signal.

Wiki says:

"3 dB decrease, the power is reduced by about one half, making −3 dBm equal to about 0.5 milliwatt."

0 dBm 1.0 mW = 1000 µW is better signal then −40 dBm (100 nW)! 10k* better!

If the power is reduced, signal is worse.

And Wiki have a point.
And i repeat: In MPE only indication in percent is correct.

I'm not at home at the moment so i cannot reproduce the output. But i don't think that MyPhoneExplorer showed the last years always the wrong value and you are the first person which tells me about this.

Hmm - ok you are right. I have changed it for the next version.

Still strange that this algo was used from the beginning on (about 3 years) and nobody realized that a wrong value is shown.

77% - -97dB (-12)
58% - -85dB (-12)

AT+CSQ

response:
+CSQ: <rssi>,<ber>

<rssi> Description
0 -113 dBm or
1 -111 dBm
2-30 -109 dBm to -53 dBm
31 -51 dBm or greater

99 Not known or not detectable

2-30 -109 dBm to -53 dBm - here must be the bad conversion (bug) in program!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

30-2 = 28; 109 db - 53 dB = 56 dB; 56 dB/28 = 2dB step

rssi =

0 => -113 dBm or less (0% - poor signal)
1 => -111 dBm
------------------------
2 => -109 dB,
3 => -107 dB (= -109 dB +2 dB),
4 => -105 dB (= -107 dB +2 dB),
...... ect

30 =>-53 dB

-----------------------
and finaly:

31=>-51 dB or more (100% - superb signal)

Signal [dB] = rssi*2 -113

Thats all.
