Connection to phone could not be established

Please can someone help?

I have an LG Optimus Pro phone model LG-E988. For years I have used MPE and used this phone and several others with it very successfully - I love the program, and have made a donation for it!

Suddenly, about 6 months ago, the computer just would not connect - the messages given are:

Connection to phone could not be established.
Failed to obtain the IP-address of the phone.
OR
Phone could not be identified.

I have a Sony laptop PC running Windows 10 Pro fully updated. I have the latest MPE app installed (version 1.8.8). I have the latest version MPE client (version 1.0.45) installed on 2 LG phones. My wife's phone (LG G2) has no problem at all connecting and syncing via Wifi. But when I open the client on my phone, then open the app on my computer, then enter the password for my phone, it displays the previously saved data no problem. Then I click on Connect, but it gives the error messages above. I have read every post I can find on this problem, tried everything.

Today I bought a new computer (Windows 10 Home 64-bit). Installed MPE. Full of high hopes it would find my phone. It found and synced with my wife's new Asus phone no problem - but mine, no, same error messages.

I then tried (again) assigning a fixed IP address via the router MAC settings, but still the same problem.

What can I do please? I've tried via USB on the new computer, same problem. Tried Bluetooth, same problem. I need to buy a new phone now, and desperately want to backup and transfer everything.

I have about the same problem, after months of connecting without any problems MPE suddenly can't find my phone anymore. ( Error 10016 connection is forcefully rejected)
MPE finds another phone (the same phone but with a lt of numbers behind it) and if I connect with the "new" phone nothing happens....
Please help me/ us !

Sudden change: Phone could not be identified

Suddenly this afternoon my phone would no longer connect by USB cable.

The error message is "Phone could not be identified". The connection bar pauses at "Identifying...", then the failure occurs. The logfile content is below. The key part appears to be:

This occurs on both my desktop PC (Windows 7) and my laptop (also Windows 7).

There are no obvious recent changes to my PCs or phone (HTC M9).

Power-cycling the phone made no difference.
Rebooting the PC made no difference.

The problem occurs with the software firewall off or on (AVG Internet Security).

Updating the ADB drivers (Drivers 4.17.0.001 shipped as part of HTC Sync V3.1.88-2, install, then remove application, leaving drivers in place) makes no difference.

Any ideas? It's very annoying as I use the PC for reading and sending text messages.

It's difficult to be certain, but I think this might be due to an AVG AntiVirus update on the phone.

Removing AVG from the phone allows the connection to work with both PCs (desktop and laptop).

The connection still works with both desktop and laptop after reinstalling AVG on the phone several hours later.

I am having a similar problem. I could always connect my desktop to my phone. Maybe it took two or three tries but it would work.

Now it never works.

I noticed that my phone is on the 2.4 GHz channel of my router but my desktop is on the 5 GHz channel.

Does anybody know if both must be on the same channel of the router for MPE to work?

I just struck the same problem with version MPE 1.8.12 and Android 6.01! After literally years of working perfectly, with no changes that I can think of to either apps installed on the phone or on my PC, suddenly it would not connect showing the message "phone could not be identified"! Anyway after reading comments here that suggested it might have something to do with the phone, I rebooted the phone and now it is working perfectly again.

Everything was connecting fine yesterday.
Today, "connection to phone could not be established"

petec's post gave me the clue I was looking for. We have a relatively new router, installed within the last few months, with three channels.

Looked at wi-fi connections and sure enough, phone was on one channel of router and PC on another. Connected phone to same channel as PC and voila, everything works again.

For Android phones, if you suddenly are unable to connect, but the connection has worked in the past, the problem might be a change in Android permissions. Android periodically makes changes in how its permissions work. Sometimes they become more granular -- you have to grant the application permission to access specific things. Sometimes permissions are withdrawn for infrequently used applications.

I have been able to correct this problem, on multiple occasions, by uninstalling the MPE Android client and then reinstalling it. During the reinstall, or on the first use, I am able to grant all the necessary permissions, and the application works again.

On first use, the MPE client will transfer you to a specific Android permission screen to grant permission. After you do this, select the return character "<" on the permissions screen to take you back to the MPE app, so it can continue on and take you to the next Android screen where you may need to grant an additional permission to access something else.

I had working connection in the past but all of the sudden it stopped working with a prompt: Cannot identify phone. I checked permissions and they were okay. I managed to overcome this problem by renamining my phone Bluetooth displayed name - added additional letter and reconnected BT under new name. Then picked new name in the BT settings in MPE. It started sync right away.
