Cant restore/read SMSInbox.dat and SMSArchive.dat
I have been reading several threads on this forum and tried many options written by the user "FJ" but none of them seem to work.
My issue is, I saved the SMS from like 14 years ago using Myphoneexplorer, now I dont have the phone left and the only thing I have are SMSInbox.dat and SMSArchive.dat
I tried connecting another old phone, Sony Ericsson J110 (which is not the same as the one I got the SMSarchive.dat and SMSInbox.dat from) and connected that to MPE. After that, i tried replacing the SMS.dat with SMSArchive.dat to see the texts, but they wont show.
Do I need the old phone to show the messages? Because I dont have it..
I dont know what version i Used, and i dont know how i can view them.. I would so appreciate some help here, I have struggled with this for months...
What can I do?
If theres any chance of restoring this, i would greatly pay 30€ for the job. And yes, i can provide you with the SMSInbox.dat and SMSarchive.dat

I just tried to import SMS from an SMS.dat file, but this seems not to be supported.
Copying an old SMS.dat into a new, empty profile is working.
You may want to try it with manually creating a new profile:
1) With MPE closed, create a new profile folder in the directory where your general.ini file resides, and name it e.g. "Temp [123456789012345]
2) Copy yoour SMSInbox.dat into it and rename it to SMS.dat
3) Start MPE and you should see the new profile on the lower left
4) After selecting the new profile, you should be able to see the SMS
If this does not work, the file structure may have changed and I would not have an idea for that.

This did not work. There are no messages showing up, I can see a new profile that was created, but no texts..MobMob hat geschrieben:I just tried to import SMS from an SMS.dat file, but this seems not to be supported.

Here is an example of the code in the file if you could try it?:

Okay then, I tried downloading an older version from a "shady" website but that didnt seem to work either..Sorry, I can't help more from here. The only thing I can think off is to get a very old version of MPE and try it again.
Let's see if someone comes up with a better idea.
Still need help with this.
No need to use shady websites. It's all on Waybackmachine:

Even a 13 years old v1.3.3
Choose one that is close to your file date.
I also compared your SMS data structure and it is different from today's, indeed.

Sorry for the delay.
Please send me your files zipped via email with a link to this thread, i will transform them for you in a file you can import in the SMS-Archive of MyPhoneExplorer and from there you can upload them to your current phone. My mail is fj.wechselberger<at>gmx.at
Please note that the official client version from PlayStore has no more write access to the sms database. So if you want to upload messages from pc to phone then you'll need Client Version 1.0.48

I will send you the zip file with the dat files that I have saved.
Its not important for me to upload them to my current phone, I just want to be able to read them in a similar format like MPE. If that is possible, im so happy.
Reply to me again when you are done and I will make the payment to your Paypal or bitcoin account.
Again, thank you!
