Specifying computer contact list by file

I have finally gotten MPE to work on my Ubuntu computer only to find that it has no direct way of syncing with the data managed by the native linux Thunderbird installation. I am aware of the suggestion to install a second, Windows, version of Thunderbird via Wine and create a logical link between its files and the Linux version's files. While that workaround might work (except that I cannot get the Windows Thunderbird to install under Wine !) wouldn't it be much more elegant if it were possible to specify directly in the configuration options the file with which you want to sync? I recognize that it would still be necessary, in my case, to create a logical link so that the linux version of the Thunderbird data file would be visible to the Windows version of MPE. But that is a very lightweight thing to handle.
