Syncing with Outlook puts new entries in Phone not Google

Hi Folks,
I prefer to keep all my contacts in one place on my phone after many database disasters. Now, however, whenever I sync with the Google database, any new contacts from Outlook end up in Phone instead of Google. I seem unable to control this. I've tried exporting the new contacts and importing into Google online, but that doesn't seem to help. It feels like MPE is getting mixed up among the various databases, Google, Phone (and Cloud - but that's another story).
Please advise. Thank you.

I agree that this is a major nuisance. My contact updates are now in Google and not the phone and I cannot think of an easy way to merge them.
