Name, adress lookup on incoming calls

Beitrag von P?l R »

Hi!

First I have to commend you on a kick xxx piece of software!

Then I have to make a few suggestions :)

1. Why is there no reverse-lookup of name/adress on incoming calls (in real time)? This should be a snap to implement since you already have the network code, you would only need to fit it in the call monitor for incoming calls with no entry in the adress book. I know that would be super-nice to have in my work setting, as well as privately.

2. Also about the call monitor. Could you possibly display a bit more than just the name, I have hundreds of people call me, and I don't always recognize them by name, but if I get company and comments, then I would know what to expect.

3. The behavior of the call monitor is a bit annoying. It "steals focus" at least 2 times after a call has started, which is annoying when I have already activated the "phone keypad". I use a lot of phone-activated services at work where I need to punch in lots of numbers.

These are minor things, I know, but I think they would contribute to push MPE even further!

Thanks again,
Pål R

(Expect a small donation sometime after my next paycheck :P)

Hy

1. Does the revers-search work if you start it manually (in the contact-edit dialog). Note - not every phone-number can be found and it works not for all countrys.

2. I'll think about it

3. I'll think about it

Lookup

Yes, it works from the call log context menu. If I can help, just ask. Gomibushi at gmail.com - im not completly lost when it comes to simpler programming.

I tried it now and it worked automatically. Note that the lookup is only started if the number is not listed in your phonebook.

I have read your post again and i think i didn't understand it right. Realtime-Lookup is already possible, but not by default (i'm afraid of too many requests). Just activate this option in the settingswindow.

Hi again, thanks for taking the time to support your software!

You probably read it correctly, but I explained myself a bit badly.
I know the setting, first in advanced 2. Still does nothing for me :(

I'm on a totally open network and even right on top of the national backbone (I work for the ex-national telco) I get nothing. Same for a colleague of me.

Tried turning it on and off, and restarting etc. Testing with another phone not listed in my phone book.

Idea: could it be that national number here are sent with no national prefix? If you poll for prefix to see what db to check for the name of the number you would not get a prefix in norway when it is an intra-national call.

Support this theory is that when I do manage to do a lookup from the call log, the search says "+47xxxxxxxx", so I guess the code might be different?

This can be a reason. Normally on incoming calls there is always the countrycode infront of it. How are incoming calls displayed in the caller window ? Please give me an example.

Please try it out again and send me the logfile after this - so i can reproduce it on my PC. Send the file please via mail and don't cut/edit lines which bedins with "*ECAV...".

Google maps

Beitrag von P?l R »

Hi again!

Guess this should be a new thread, but we've got this one going so good, so here it goes:

Google just "fixed" google maps for norway. Adresses now return accurate hits in the map - perhaps you should change MPE to use google maps for norwegian adresses too?

Google maps IS best, and it would be better to have one map solution for MPE, I guess.

Thanks for your logfile. I was able to fix the bug (the phone did not transfer the countrycode to MyPhoneExplorer). Will take effect in the next minor-update.

Google-Maps: I tried to search the address of the phonenumber you gave me. Google could only locate the street but not the number of the building. norgeskartet.no could locate the exact place.

Anyway - i changed it no to Google also for Norge. It is serverbased so you can try it out with MyPhoneExplorer without update. Make many requests so we know which service is better.

Thanks!

Looking forward for that fix :)

If you have a compiled beta I could test it if you need, but I guess you have ways of simulating that.

I've tested google maps a bit, and I noticed that maps.google.com and .no are not the same thing at all. .no returns hits on all my four tests (previous places I've lived, so I know if the positioning is correct)

Google announced they lauched the new google maps for norway today btw. http://www.itavisen.no/php/art.php?id=387446 (norwegian)
