Phone can not be identefied?

Hey i have windows XP pro and the mobil sone ericsson w810i
and im using USB

But everytime i try to connect it it gives me the message
"can not be identefied"

do any of you know how to fix this?

- are the phone drivers installed correct?
- did you select the "phone mode" when connecting the cable?
- did you read this FAQ's?

Which mode did u put ur phone in and most likely course like Mr. Deauville said is that ur drivers are not installed because i got that message when i first plugged my phone into my computer when i got it but then i installed the drivers and has worked since.

i tried a program called setupCOM and got the message

Try following driver from Prolific ( http://www.prolific.com.tw/eng/support.asp ):
Download -> USB and Firewire -> USB to I/O Port Controllers -> PL-2303

If this don't work try a differnet USB Port.

Check if maybe a other program is using the Comport - close such a program.

If nothing helps then send me the debug.txt from the SetupCOM Directory to phone-software@hitziger.net.

I installed the USB software but i still get the message. If i use my phone with the program that follows it PCsiut then it works, but i cant get i to work in other programs that i want to use. I have tried phone mode as well.

Can it be my com ports or something like that i have to change??

Under XP there's no need to install any other drivers like the "prolific".
All the drivers you need are on the Sony-Ericson CD you've got with your phone. Install THIS drivers and nothing other!
If you don't have the Original CD, download the drivers from Sony-Ericson's Website.
Like described in the FAQ's there should be installed 4 COM-ports on your machine and 1 or 2 of them should work with MyPhoneExplorer
(those which should be shown in device manager under "modems").

Rightclick the first "Sony Ericson XXX USB WMC Data Modem" entry and select "Properties".
Click on the tab "Modem" and look which COM-port is assigned.

This should be the right one for use with MyPhoneExplorer.

If they don't work at all, look if the SE PC-Suite is running.
If so, shut it down and be shure there's no task running anymore
(open task manager and if there's a task named "epmworker.exe" end the process).
Maybe PCSuite blocks the COM-ports for MyPhoneExplorer.

If the device is not listed in device manager:
Try to deinstall and reinstall the drivers (NOT THE PROLIFIC).

If all dosn't help, post your logfile here. You can find it in
C:\Programs\MyPhoneExplorer\debug.txt

i really appreciate the detailed step by step program, but:

the problem is that i can not se the modem under device manange. there is no modem.
I can only see com1 in all the programs i have used, no com2,3 og 4.

Im have installed the software form the sony ericsson CD.

Have i forgot something before i can follow the step by step process?

You don't have to install the whole PC-Suite. Just install the drivers. Can you see anything in your devicemanager what has something to do with your phone ?

I can only si in my control pannel something called "phone and modem options" and i can se my phone there, but i cant change any options under "attached to" it says "no present"

Do you have any idea what that means?

insert your SonyEricsson-CD, select this entry in the devicemanager and choose "Update drivers". Did you read the FAQ in my Forum ?
