Yes, no problem.
- ensure that MPE cannot connect to any phone
- select the old user profile
- Menu-Extras-Create backup
- MPE tries to connect, after it fails he will ask you for "Offline backup" -> Yes
- create the backup
- connect the new phone
- restore the backup

Thank you for answer. I restore my old backup from my SGN1 but this delete my contacts in my new SGN4. Any chance how to merge two backups? I talking only about contacts, no about text messages, call logs.....

Instead of restoring a backup you can also IMPORT the backupfile into your contactlist. This will not delete existing contacts and you can edit the changes before sync. Contactlist->Rightclick->Import/Export->Import...

Can this be done for messages just the same - and where do you rightclick exactly?

[Rightclick on my contactlist gives me this -> New Contact/Synchronise. Rightclick on messages (i.e. Inbox) gives me -> New Message/Refresh View]

Best regards :)

Restoring data to a new phone with deletes

Beitrag von pearlie »

Hello FJ! I'm hoping you can help me with a followup to Skobas question. I'm attempting a similar task...

I am trying to restore contacts to my new phone. I had 2000 records in the old user. To clean up the data I deleted about 75% of them (duplicates), then created a backup and restored it to the new user for the new phone. The data came in complete but the deletes were not removed. Is there a way to do this without going through the entire list under the new user and performing the deletes again?

@pearlie:

If you did not synchronize your deletes with your old phone, the entries are marked to delete only, they are still there until a final sync. If your old phone is still available, I would suggest to do that final sync and after that make a new backup/restore.

If not...
Are that marked entries still there in old user profile?
If so, you could try this (dirty) way at your own risk:
- BE SURE THERE ARE NO IMPORTANT CONTACTS YET IN YOUR NEW PHONE!!!
- close any instance of MPE
- open "%appdata%\MyPhoneExplorer" in Windows Explorer
- switch to folder named with your old phone
- copy file "phonebook.dat"
- paste this file into folder named with your new phone
- now start MPE again into new user profile, the contacts marked to delete should be still marked
- do a sync with new phone

As I said, it's the dirty way, but I hope this should do the trick.

best regards...

Thanks so much for your reply.

Without the old phone, I tried your suggestion and simply got the same file again without the deletes marked. No problem though, I will just go through the deletes again and resync.

Is there an automatic dedupe of identical records in MPE or Outlook 2007? I think these dupes are happening with Google because under Contacts it shows All, Phone, and Google. Double and quadruple dupes in both! Ugh!

No, there's no such dupe finder.
But you can try following:
- go to contact list
- right click in a headline to open context menu and check the account column
- now you should see in which account the doules are
- now sort the account column and all double contacts in a specified account can be marked to delete as a block

use phone data transfer

They say there are phone transfer programs that can help you transfer data between phones, maybe you can give it a try.
