At work I have a terminal server computer solution and thus I have a very old computer under my desk. We run a Windows Server 2003 Enterpice Edition over the net, a very good but somewhat slow solution. My own "slave"-computer under my desk runs Windows 98 SE, is it possible to install MyPhoneExplorer on the computer? Problems? Sony Ericssons software needs Windows 2000 at lowest
MyPhoneExplorer will work, but you'll get problems with the drivers of the original USB-Cable. Best solution: Use a Bluetooth-Stick. But take care that it will run in Win98 before you buy it.
Do I understand you correctly that the connecting cable supplied with the K800i will not work, because your program does not support it? Or do I have to use the SE cable driver together with your program?
If I buy a Bluetooth stick: Do I need to install anything from the SE CD? Or is it sufficient with your software?
Is it slower transfering files to the computer via bluetooth than via the USB cable? I remember a transfer rate of 0,7Mbyte/s when I was working for Nokia four years ago, isn't USB faster these days? (I was working with 3G Radio Base station mechanical and thermal design)
I think you have to slow down
If you use the USB-Cable then you need the drivers for it. This drivers (they come from SE) are not compatible to Win98. Transfer-Speed with USB is about 200KB/s. If you use Bluetooth then you need absolutly nothing from the SE-Stuff. But the transfer-rate is very slow (about 40 KB/s)
I found one file called Sport which is a screensaver, and one (hidden) file called sport.dll which is a program extention (programtillägg in swedish). I didn´t find the hidden one at first, so I deleted the wrong one, with no effect to your program.
The (new) sport.dll is a serial port communication library.
If there's a wrong version on your system, MPE will not be
able to communicate with your phone.
Before deleting the sport.dll be shure you have a backup copy of it
or do a rename instead of deleting the file.
You can also try to activate "stable connection" under File > Settings.
This will use another communication library, but not all of the new
Features are available under this setting.
I have just established my first computer to K800i connection via bluetooth and it works!!!! Thank you very much for your help
The software seems a bit unstable under W98 SE, but who wouldn´t be unstable being forced to work with 10 year old Windows. I have had three crashes so far (illegal operation), the first one after removing too many phone book entries.
