I downloaded myphoneexplorer to my old Galaxy Ace and to my laptop because I wanted to back up my text messages before doing a factory reset on the phone.

Two days later my partner asked me "Why is *my* phone asking me about myphoneexplorer when I try to send a text message?"

I checked, and the three Myphoneexplorer applications had installed themselves on my partner's phone.

How did this happen?

My partner has a HTC phone (Desire).

The only connection between our phones is that we both have the same primary email address (my gmail address) and secondary email address (my partner's) - this is because I got gmail a long time before my partner did and we didn't realise that the first gmail account used would get tied into the phone.

However, I changed my gmail password quite a long time ago to stop my partner's phone affecting my gmail account. I checked this yesterday. We both have access to my partner's email, but I did not use this address when setting up myphoneexplorer.

I connected my phone to my laptop with USB cable. My partner's phone is never attached to my laptop. We never bluetooth each other.

You both use the same email address in the Play Store?

I tried to open the Play store on my partner's phone just now.

The screen displays my partner's email address, and requests acceptance of the Play Store terms and conditions.

So I don't think my partner has ever used the Play store.

Googling around I realised I could find out which devices are attached to my Play Store.

My partner's device was listed. Likely I downloaded an application onto it, but that was probably in 2011 (the registration date stated in the Play store). At least a year ago I changed my Google password so my partner's phone should not be able to access the store.

Presumably, this has not stopped the store accessing my partner's phone!

But what is it about Myphoneexplorer that caused it to be sent to my partner's phone? I'm pretty sure that none of my other apps have done this.

I have not downloaded many apps, though, as my old phone was a Samsung Ace which has a tiny memory!

MyPhoneExplorer does by sure NOT send itself to other devices, based on your descriptions it must have to do with the PlayStore. The only way where MyPhoneExplorer gets installed eventually automatically is when the phone is attached via USB and the attached phone has enabled USB-Debugging. Maybe you check the version of MyPhoneExplorer: If installed throught USB you should get v1.0.28 - via PlayStore you get the latest 1.0.32

Unfortunately, I deleted it off my partner's phone as soon as we found it there, so I cannot check the version.

Certainly the phone was never attached by USB to any other device and neither of us have ever thought of trying USB-debugging for anything.
