I already keep Bluetooth on constantly, to connect automatically to my car's system. Keeping WiFi on all the time too would drain the battery too much. I could perhaps connect it with a cable but then I would certainly leave it behind when I left my desk.

I am keen on this too, and it's why I visited the forum today. WiFi connection is very cool but mine cuts out when the phone goes to sleep so I won't get SMS alerts on my desktop, which is a shame. That would not happen with BlueTooth.

The phone has to be connected with MPE to forward a message. So for the case with the new number, you must have the old phone+old SIM connected to MPE everytime.
If the had a contract, the old SIM will be inactive after a few days or so, so how should you send a message with it?

The line does exist and removing and replacing the gadget appears to make no difference.

Interestingly the gadget does show the battery level. It just doesn't react to incoming calls or SMSes.
