What you ask for is already available. Just go for
Settings / Sync / Contacts - Advanced
and tick the 'Show confirmation windows before MPE makes any changes'
Then when it is a change in contacts MPE will give you the chance to select what you want

I have the same error. I was using a Galaxy S ad change now to Galaxy S2. When I try to connect to the new one I get that error.

Are you talking about SMS? If that is the case, let's say you have deleted some sms from the phone. When you sync MPE will noticed that and ask you wether you want to keep them on the PC or not.
So you can recover SMS deleted on the phone provided you sync them before through MPE and if you say MPE ...
