The is some bug, i think, with the total sms count while taking up the backup. for e.g, if i have 1300 sms in my phone, during backup, it'll always say, 1300 of 250.
from where this '250' came?
My Handset: SE P1i
Type of connection: USB
MPE Version: 1.7.5
Windows Version: Windows Vista
Firmware Version: R9K009

Its not possible to read out the used messages on Symbian-Phones - normally you would see just "Downloading messages (1310)...". Does this also appear when you refresh the messagelist ?

No, it does not display this message on refreshing the message list.
And I'm not asking you to read out the used messages. I think you got the problem in a bit different way. When we refresh the message list, it just says, "Downloading 1310 of unknown..." and so on.
thats ok!
but while taking the backup [suppose my phone has 1450 messages] it says, "downloading 1310 of 250..". now i want to ask from where this 250 came and why this 250 is here? I've 1450 messages in my phone and not just 250. Instead of 250, it must be 1450, i.e., the total no. of messages that i have in my phone. Then it must say like.."Downloading 1310 of 1450", which would mean that out of 1450 messages, 1310 have been downloaded! but in the present case, it means that out of 250, 1310 have been downloaded, how this can be possible?
it must read like "downloading 1310 of <total no. of messages in mobile>..".
where 1310 [or whatever be no. of messages downloaded], will always be less than the total number of messages.
I know this is not a bug, its just a counter that you must have set to 250 as the earlier mobiles had 250 maximum message limit in mobile.
Now you can set it equal to the TOTAL NUMBER OF MESSAGES IN PHONE.
I hope you must have got what i actually mean. Actually i've been noticing this from the last 3 versions. so i just wished to make it in your knowledge.

The "250" is not hard-coded. it comes from the phone but its a invalid value. I will fix this little issue with the next update

I never public update-timelines (and i don't think that this display-issue is so important)
