MPE won't charge my K770 beyond 85%

I'm not sure if this is a problem with MPE or not but my K770 can't be charged beyond 85% using original (not third-party) data cables (two different ones, both S-E). MPE shows the charging current slowly ramping down to zero as the charge approaches 85%, at which point it stops. If I charge the phone using the standard mains charger and plug it in then it discharges to 85% (i.e. runs the phone off the internal battery) before running off USB power.
I'm not sure if this is a problem with MPE or just MPE showing up a problem with... the phone? the cable? the driver?, has anyone else experienced a similar problem?

MPE does not control the charging in any point. It just shows the monitor-values.

Thanks.
In that case has anyone else seen behaviour like this? It seems that S-E have somehow managed to create a bizarre software-controlled charging cable that only charges the phone when their drivers are installed. If I plug the data cable into a USB port (or standalone USB charger) then nothing happens, it's only when the drivers are installed that the phone starts charging. In addition, as mentioned above, it only charges to 85%.
(This is really annoying, it makes it impossible to use a standard USB charger to charge the phone, I have to always carry round the *#&^$#&* S-E dedicated charger for it. I bet it's the Sony part of S-E that decided this braindamage was a good idea...).

This has a technical reason. A USB-Hub can power maximal 150mA. Only through a software-interaction with the OS the power can be increased to max 500mA.
But i cannot explain the behavior with 85% - my phone loads throught USB to 100%

This is connected directly to the computer (on four very different machines), and I can see the charging current start at well over 200mA and slowly drop down to zero as the charge approaches 85%.

Yeah, it's pretty strange, it's as if the charging was zeroed at 85% instead of 100%. Since it occurs with multiple cables and computers it's either the phone or the S-E drivers for the cable, since it won't charge at all if the drivers aren't installed. I've used the exact same setup with an older F500 without any problems, it's only the K770 that has problems.
(If it wasn't for MPE I think I would have switched to Nokia years ago
