You say that you plan to add Outlook Express, Outlook, Rainlendar, Sunbird, Google,... in the sync-options.
Any plan to also add Lotus Notes? |

Very well done! You're doing a marvellous work (PayPaling you soon )
I've noticed you followed the offline folders approach; Effective and reliable.
Comments:
* The category filter isn't working; dunno if my wrong usage or not; this is what I tried:
- Deleted all contacts on the Phone/MPE to be sure to start from a clean scenario
- Enabled Outlook Sync
- Enabled recursion of all contact folders
- Selected exceptions
- Without selecting ANY contact, I've just added the 'NoSync' category in the unwanted contacts; the category list is unsorted here - it would be nice (but not urgent) to get it sorted
- Saved selections and sync
- All the contacts appear in the list, regardless the category
* 'File As' field is ignored: contacts are always stored using firstname & lastname... |

I tried this several times now with version 1.4.30 and it worked perfectly. Note that the categories are case sensitive
The phone doesn't support the "FilaAs"-Tag - sorry |

In my k800 it looks like that the contents of the phone list are generated by the 'Name' field (when editing the contact).
Now when MPE pulls out data from Outlook, it should check the contents of Outlooks 'File As' field and store it in 'Name' field in the phone. Yes doing so you loose the name and lastname info, but if a user is forceing a company name in the 'File as' field......
Maybe you could give users an option that tells MPE how to beheave:
* use Outlook's Firstname and Lastname fields
<or>
* use Outlook's 'File as' field |

I don't think this is a good idea. If in outlook is no name/firstname then "FilaAs" is used - automatically. f.e. for company-contacts. |

Perfect.
But i think that when Outlook users are saving a company contact (that has a firstname/lastname) and forcing the company name into 'File As' field, they're expecting the same beheaviour in the phone.....
If Outlook users are forcing company name into the 'File As' field, it means they're expecting them selfs to search the contact list with the company name, not the lastname/firstname.
Of course in Outlook you don't loose the lastname/firstname info that is still being holded into the contact, once opened.
Anyway you could let users decide how MPE should map those fields, warning users that if sticking to the 'File As'->'Name' mapping they could loose lastname/firtsname data
In my case it's not a problem because I'm using the Outlook->Phone priority so I simply can't loose any data....
Unfortunatelly it looks like SE didn't think about those details and simply created that generic field 'Name'.... that is being used to display data in the contact list and to hold firstname/lastname...
On this side, Nokia's software was superior, managing a contact field 'Display' holding whatever was choosen by users, besides firtsname/lastname and company name into the contact. |

Yes, i know.
The problem is inside the sync-routines. Especially the name-tags are very important to find the right item in Outlook if the UID is lost. If the user can switch the tag-fields i have pure chaos and all users cry and bluster, why MyPhoneExplorer throws the contacts away and make duplicates - no, the risk is to height and i make a SIMPLE program which should work without a bad surprise. |
