Broken UTF-8 Support since v1.7.2

Broken UTF-8 support in phone book, messaging, notes, calendar, tasks and, actually, every text input field.
I am unable to save any phone book entries, text messages, notes, calendar appointments or tasks containing unicode characters - they get replaced either with question marks - "?" - (if pasted from clipboard) or with unmodified Latin letters (if typed manually).
I recall being able to enter such data (with unicode characters) in all recent previous versions (since v1.6.5 at least), and, since there is no option in settings to alter this behaviour, I really doubt this being some uber-cool new feature - even more, I am strongly convinced, that this is a really nasty bug that has to get fixed as soon as possible.

I don't think it has to do with the version of MyPhoneExplorer. There were no changes in Unicode-Handling.
- Please ensure that the right system-charset is active on your PC
- ensure that your PC is NOT in DBCS-Mode (mostly on chinese PCs)

System charset should have nothing to do this (if application in question handles unicode encoding correctly).
And what do you mean by DBCS? UTF-16?

Anyways, the problem manifests itself when I enter any of these characters
ĀāČčĒēĢģĪīĶķĻļŅņŌōŖŗŠšŪūŽž
When pasted, they get replaced with
????????????????????Šš??Žž
When typed manually, they get replaced (after saving entry/note/message) with
AaCcEeGgIiKkLlNnOoRrŠšUuŽž
Also, when I am typing a text message, MPE does not switch to UTF-8 mode anymore, just to UCS2.

MyPhoneExplorer does handle unicode correct, but only internally. The controls (textfields,....) are not unicode-compatible. Where do you live ? To check if DBCS is enabled on your PC please post the first view lines of the logfile.

I'm a new user to MPE starting from 1.7.2 and it works fine with my K800i so far except that it cannot display the Chiense character in my phonebook and cannot edit as well.
However, using chinese char in sms was all ok. As i started to type a balloon came out stating the msg is now in unicode format. The sms was sent without any problem.
However, with the same computer setting, i uninstalled 1.7.2 and installed the new 1.7.3. Then things changed. Yeap all the chinese text I typed changed into ?????? in the msg. Didn't notice that until a friend of mine asked me what did I sent to him.
Also, the balloon stating the msg is in unicode doesn't exist anymore. Sadly, I didn't keep the log file for you to inspect and I've uninstalled the 1.7.3 and reverting back to 1.7.2.
Thanks. In fact I'm really eager to try out the new version and now I can't due to this downfall. It's a good software.
By the way, Notes sync never work for me. Always having error.

There are many known problems if the PC runs in DBCS-Mode. These are not fixable (which relates to the Notes-Problem).
Cause the SMS-Problem. It was not planned - maybe its a side-effect. Please try again v1.7.2 to verify that it has to do with the new version.

Confirmed it is with the 1.7.3 version only. After I reinstalled 1.7.2 I can do chinese sms again.
Yet to try the new 1.7.4 though.
Thanks.

i also face the problem of writing chinese SMS.
i'm using Windows XP SP2 English version and MPE 1.7.4.
i'm unable to input chinese characters, but if i copy the text from an text editor and paste it into the message box, i'm able to do so.
another problem is that i can see the chinese text in the preview panel of my inbox, but when i click the particular message to open it, the text becomes ??????.
hope the problems can be solved. this is really a great program.

Please note the editor-fields of MPE are not fully unicode-compatible. To enable it for chinese chars you have to set the system-charset to CHina, but this will cuse alot of other problems.
