Instructions? And how does backup feature work?

Please forgive me if I have missed the answers to these questions elsewhere. My questions:

1) Where are the instructions for this app?

2) How does backup work? What is the difference between "archive (computer)" and "backup"?

Specifically: I have backed up my w580i (including many SMS) to my computer and I am upgrading to a w760a. Presumably this means all the old phone's SMS will be stored on my computer and accessible on the computer at any time ... but how do I do this -- without loading the old messages onto my new phone? I don't see any obvious function for this in MPE's menus.

w760a
MPE 1.7.2
USB
Vista (yeah, I know... :( )

Thanks!

1) No, not needed
2.1) Menu-Extras-Create backup
2.2) A backup is a external file for later use. The SMS-Archive in MyPhoneExplorer shows the content everytime you work with MPE

Cause your question: You can also import the messages into SMS-Archive. Go to SMS-Archive->rightclick->Import

Thanks, but ...

Can't find any menu item "SMS-Archive" in English version.

On the left side menu it does say "Archive (Computer)" but a right click on this does not lead to an "Import" option. The only options are "New Message" and "Refresh View."

Right-click in the window on the right to find Import...

Supplementary on this backup/restore feature.
If I create a backup on date xxxxxxx and I restore it at a later date, what will happen with the data at that later date? Lost?
And I'll have my phone in the same status as on date xxxxxxxx then?

contacts, appointments, tasks and notes will be transfered 1:1 - entrys you careted after the backup in the phone will be lost. Messages get not deleted on restoring in the phone (if there is enought free space)
