hi, i recently installed the program and i'm using an se p990i.
i can sync the phone and view my messages, no problem.
backup process was done, also.
the backup file size was about 82kb.
and i had about 300 text messages in the phone.
are the messages included in the backup?
i plan to upgrade the software in phone.
which means that everything might be lost in the process.
that's what backups are for, right?

You can load the backupfile to check how many messages are included. Just click on Menu-Extras-Restore backup (the backupwizzard shows you the data - then you can abort the restore-mechanism)
The backups from myPhoneExplorer are phoneindependent - this means if you have tomorrow a new phone then you can restore it also on this phone. Thats the good point. The bad point: Especially Symbian-Phones have some bugs in the messageinterface so the messages will not look exactly same as thy were before on the phone. For the P990i its strongly recommened to make additionally a backup with the PC-Suite cause the PC-Suite can access the phone in native-mode which works better (but you can restore a PC-Suite-Backup only on the same phone)

The messages are saved in the datapath of MyPhoneExplorer (%appdata%\MyPhoneExplorer). but you can export them also to common files (xml, html, csv). Select the messages and choose rightclick->Import/Export for this task

If you did not close MyPhoneExplorer then there is a little chance that the datafile was not overwritten. In this case make a copy of the datafolder from MPE before closing it (Start-Run-%appdata%\MyPhoneExplorer-OK). If you did already closed MyPhoneExplorer then the messages are lost - did you ever make a backup of the phone ?

Where is the problem ?
Maybe you did move the databasefolder in the settings of MyPhoneExplorer, normally the folder is located in %appdata%.
The SMS are saved in the profilefolder for the phone (subfolder of databasefolder), the filename is SMS.dat.
