A year ago I have bought W880i for myself and W890i for my wife.
As we travel a lot, some times we need to use our mobile telephones to connect out laptops to Internet.
So I have installed in my laptop dial-up modem connection and GPRS connection via Bluetooth via my W880i.
I also made similar configuration for my wife for her laptop and her W890i.
During the whole 2008 all these configurations were working perfectly.
In December 2008 I have reinstalled windows at both laptops and than restored connections for mobile telephones.
I have restored configurations precisely as they were before.
The GPRS connection is working perfectly again, but dial-up connection does not work anymore.
I have the same problem on both laptops with both telephones.
Program shows, that communication between laptop and telephone is established via correct port.
At this moment the telephone must start to dial the number.
On the screen of the telephone I can see that it indeed starts to dial for a second, but then this operation is just aborted.
A few seconds later laptop gives a note that modem can not be initialized.
I tried to make different adjustments in configuration of the connection, but the problem remains.
Now I think that this is the most probably a problem with the telephones software.
Could anybody help me please ?
Thank you very much in advance !
Operating platform on both laptops is Windows XP SP3
Bluetooth driver is IVT BlueSoleil v2.3.0
As mobile modem driver I use Bluetooth modem driver for series 800 (supplied in 2 files: SemW800_BT.inf and semw800.cat), appears in the list of modems as “Sony Ericsson W800 Bluetooth Modem”
Actual software version in W880i is CXC1250640 R8BA024 071010
Actual software version in W890i is 1200-9164 R1EA030 080205 |

I had the same experience in XP os not Vista (if you are talking about XP).
It is advised to install all necessary drivers and utilities over the XP SP2 and and check whether they are working well, then if you are insisting to upgrade to SP3, do it. |

Dear Site Admin
Thank you for your suggestion.
I have send my question to esato.
So far no result.
Dear Khosrow,
Right, this is a difference…
In beginning 2008 I have indeed installed all the divers incl. mobile modem driver over SP2.
This is simply because the SP3 was not yet there.
This December I have first upgraded Windows to SP3 and then installed all drivers.
Is that sure that SP3 can conflict with drivers ?
Do you learned on your experience ?
To uninstall SP3 is a very radical and dangerous action.
It for sure will destruct performance of many programs and even may crash the whole platform.
If this is indeed a case, I will better live a few month without dial-up modem and keep in mind this advice until I reinstall Windows next time.
Any way thank you very much. |

Yes, I'm agree with you that uninstalling SP3 cause instability in windows performance.
then try setup windows SP2 on one of those laptops later on and see the result.
Cheers |

SP3 makes a lot of problems, maybe this could be the reason.
Anyway: in the bluetooth-settings in your phone there's a point "bluetooth internet" - have you chosen the right profile in there? |

I have checked:
In my W880i Bluetooth Internet opens the following sub-menu:
Data accounts
- PS Account 1
- Vodafone MMS
- Vodafone Web
- Beeline WAP-GPRS
- Beeline MMS-GPRS
I guess that Beeline WAP-GPRS and MMS-GPRS are my GPRS connection. This one works well.
I do not think I ever used Vodafone MMS and Web…
But what is PC Account ?
Is this account for connection between MyPhoneExplorer in my PC and telephone or this is a connection from PC to mobile dialup modem ?
The only action I can perform in this menu is to choose one of the accounts.
At this moment PS Account 1 has been chosen. |

Yes. MyPhoneExplorer connects to the phone also throught the Modeminterface, but it does not connect to internet. If you want to use your phone as internetmodem for the PC then you have to be sure that MyPhoneExplorer has no connection to the phone. |

Dear FJ,
Do you mean by this "to use dialup modem while the telephone is connected to MPE" ?
No, I did not do it, of course.
Every time I tried to use dialup, the MPE was definitely not active.
I am still thinking about this “PS Account 1” at my W880i.
As I understand, this is a sort of connection (like LAN connection in PC) and it must have a certain configuration.
Is that possible that this “PS Account 1” has got some error in configuration and caused malfunctioning of the modem ?
Is there any way to check and edit this configuration ?
For instance, for my home internet I use ADSL modem.
This modem can have either Bridge or Router configuration.
I can change from Bridge to Router and back, if necessary, from my PC:
Start IE - fill in address http://192.168.1.1 (This starts dialog with my modem) – get a dialog window "Overview of Device Information", and then change configuration.
Is it possible anything similar with the mobile modem ? |

Er... I can connect to the internet via bluetooth on my phone and ALSO use MPE at the SAME time! |
