Tweaking dialer functionality

Hi there,

I'm mainly using MyPhoneExplorer as a dialer in order to make it easier to handle loads of calls during the day.

What I'd really like to see is the following additions to MyPhoneExplorer:

- Speed dialing
Best thing would be to be able to right-click a phone number in the browser, document etc. but that would require quite a lot of plugin development I assume.
Second best would be a speed dialing function, i.e. copy the phone number, press the new "Speed dial"-button in the GUI, paste the number and click OK and then the call is being made.
At the moment I use a dummy contact which need to be opened, updated, closed before the call can be made and that process could be greatly improved.

- Creating folders in SIM-card contacts
I don't want to include all my business contacts in my phone book on the phone, trust me it's big enough anyway. For that reason I use the SIM-card contact list for contacts that I regularly call when being present at the office. Even though not supported by the SIM-card I would like the possibility to sort my contacts using folders for e.g. different projects. Obviously, the folder structure would not be part of the info syncronized with the phone but that's no problem to me.

If you don't want to make changes to the SIM-card view, I don't mind getting a special desktop contact list, only available through MyPhoneExplorer and not from within the phone.

- Minimize number of clicks needed to perform a call
Currently, when calling a contact by selecting "Call" the user is presented with a list containing all phone numbers assigned to the contact. When only having one number per contact, this step is kind of useless. Maybe I haven't really understood the purpose, but I would like to get rid of the second step for single-number-contacts. Hence, "Call" would immediately trigger the call to be made without further clicks needed....

Might be that some (or all) of these features are already present, but I haven't been able to find them anyway :)

BTW:
Thanks a lot for a great software, don't know how I managed to live without it before...

- Speed dialing
I don't think this is needed - You have a global shortcut for dialing (Standard: Ctrl+F6). There you can paste a new phonenumber into or use the phonebook.

- Creating folders in SIM-card contacts
As you said - the SIM-card doesn't support this. So it doesn't make much sense because MyPhoneExplorer should show the data of the phone. FJ doesn't like things in MPE which aren't on the phone.

- Minimize number of clicks needed to perform a call
This wouldn't be usefull for very much people i think. If you have just one number which is already in the textbox - you just have to press enter. This is not too much.

Re speed dialing: what about Settings > Advanced 2: Popup dial window...

Or have I misunderstood this completely?

Now this is exactly what I'm talking about!
Thx a lot for bringing it to my knowledge :)

I disagree, it's very much needed but on the other hand CTRL+F6 was exactly the function I was looking for. I just didn't know that the feature existed since I haven't been able to find a manual. Item solved...

This is really more a question of extending the intended purpose of the application, than a discussion of if it is supported by the phone or not.

From my point of view it would make a lot of sense, but I don't really care if the feature is handled through the SIM-card tab or not. In fact I'd probably prefer a separate tab, i.e. a complete extension of the intended use of the application. In a very near future I will have to start cleaning up my contact list since I don't have room for more contacts on my SIM-card. Being able to use a non-limited contact list for this specific use would be awesome. As mentioned earlier, I don't really need to keep all the contacts on my phone. I only use the SIM-tab to not clutter my address book and still being able to keep my contacts for easy access...

Having to perform twice the needed amount of clicks is considered too much by some of us *smile*
Of the features described in this thread, this is however the least important one. It's still on my wish list though...

Cheers

Cause 2) Especially the SIM-List is not recommened for this cause write-access is limited on newer phones. The whole thing is buggy and to be honest: The SIM-View is only there cause i made it for older models.

If you are doing so much business then i'm sure you are already using Outlook or Thunderbird. For this two apps there are Addins to dial a number directly with MPE (the addin injects the functionality in the contextmenu of Outlook or Thunderbird)-> and you can also edit the view in this apps as you like it. Maybe a solution for you...

I'll keep that in mind. Only downside at the moment is that I'm stuck with Lotus Notes with my current customer :(

What do I need to do to get this feature working in Outlook, is it enabled by default by simply installing MPE?

You are using Lotus Notes, very old and outdated stuff...

The Outlook-Addin should initialize automatically. If not then reinstall MPE. You can see that its loaded if you find the menu "MyPhoneExplorer" in the main-menulist.
