[feat req] Latin characters in text messages only

Hi!
I would like to ask the author of the MPE, which I consider as the best program for SE mobiles, to include one feature.
When I write SMS text messages using only Latin characters the message contains 160 characters per unit. When I use Polish characters (I am Polish) the SMS is counted as 72 characters or so (due to Unicode coding I suppose), and therefore almost all my SMSes are more than twice expensive than they should be. I believe similar thing happens with German umlauts, Hungarian accents, etc. The thing is that I type Polish characters automatically, because I do that when I use OpenOffice, write e-mails etc. I do not type the consciously, such typing is simply at my fingertips. So I would like to ask for an option that all SMSes would be automatically converted to Latin characters e.g. ą = a, ć = c, ł = l, etc. Is it possible?
