COM3 error

Hi folks,

I've been running MyPhoneExplorer for a year, with no problems. Until now. [Using 1.6.7 on a new PC currently.] Here's what happens:

I connect my phone to the USB cable. The SonyEricsson PC Suite window comes up, and the phone icon appears in the system tray. So, the phone appears to have connected to the computer correctly.

I close SE PC Suite, and open MyPhoneExplorer. I then go to MultiSync, and get the error message: "Could not open COM3".

What's happened?

Thanks,
jg::

That was me sending the log file - seems I must log in first!

At the time when this log was created the phone was not visible in Windows (also not for the PC-Suite).

- is the connection set to "Phone-Mode" ?
- did you uninstall the drivers ?
- do you see any marked entries in the devicemanager if the phone is plugged in ?

Everything remains the same as when I last used it:

Connection is set to File Transfer. This setting is made in the phone automatically when I plug in the USB cable.

I haven't touched the drivers, or any other setting.

If I open My Computer, I can see a Removable Disk listed there, but if I click on it, I can't see inside it. So, it seems that the phone is *not* connected properly. (Even though, when I first plug it in, SE PC Suite opens and says that I can use Windows to transfer files!)

In Device Manager, under Ports, only COM2 is listed!

In Device Manager, under USB controllers, there's a whole list of things - about 20. They relate to USB Composite Device, USB Root Hub, USB Mass Storage Device, or Intel ICH9 Family USB controller.

On the PC, there are 6 USB outs on the rear, and 2 on the front. On the rear, I have 5 devices connected permanently (mouse, keyboard, printer, etc.). The cable for the phone is also connected permanently there. When I want to sync, I simply plug the phone(w810) into the cable that is sitting there.

Thanks for any help you can give.

You have to set the transfer-mode to "Phone-Mode" , otherwise it will not work.

I've never done this. After I plug in the cable, the phone goes to File Transfer mode automatically, and that's how I've been using MyPhoneExplorer for nearly a year.

However, I tried your suggestion, and changed the phone into Phone mode. The phone tells me that "the phone is ready to be used with computer".

But it still doesn't work. "Could not open COM3" is still the error message that appears in MyPhoneExplorer.
