K700i + DSS-25 + MPE 1.66 Feedback

Hi FJ,

After not using my old K700 for some time now, I thought I'd dust it off & check out MPE 1.6.6. First I looked for newer SyncStation drivers at SE & on the dev site, but only the old 12/17/2002, 1.00.2115 driver is up. I grabbed the latest OEM driver 06/27/2007, 2.02.04 & modded the PID for SE DSS. This driver is faster/more robust & concurrently supports virtual COM & direct modes for WinXP/XP64 & Vista x86/64 while supporting baud rates up to 921600.

MPE 1.6.6 works fine with typical COM3 settings & baudrate of 460800 yielding 37kb/s up/downloads. Great stuff.

P.S. I can make the modded DSS SyncStation driver available which should also work fine for DSS-20.

AFAIK the original DSS25-Drivers also work with 460800 Baud. Did you try this (note: 115200 works, 256000 fails and 460800 works)

Yes, I had tried the original DSS drivers with WinXP a while ago. IIRC, I was getting ~30kb/s data rate @ 406800 baud. 115200 & 406800 are the highest working speeds for both driver sets. 256000 fails with the old driver. 230400 & 921600 (unfortunately) fail with the latest driver. The mods break WHQL, but the native 64bit driver works well in Vista/64.

Its too riskfully for me to set your modded drivers on my page cause your "mod" is against the copyright of SE, but i have no problems if you host the drivers yourself and make a link to it.

Heh, no copyright issues with SE. They're not from SE, but from FTDI, the ODM of the USB-Serial bridge. They're a publically available set but require editing the PID to FC82 in the infs. I've found this OBEX driver quicker to init & more robust with multiple connect/disconnect cycles. The revision history lists many bug fixes. Probably hardly worth hosting, though, as not many people would still be using DSS-25 interface phones. In some ways I prefer these to the MCCI WMC/VCOMM usb drivers for the newer series, though I have no complaints with the K850 so far.
