missing msg alerts

Hi FJ,
I pull out the phone from the USB cable while receivin calls. Also, i do not close MPE before shutdown, since i would have minimized it to tray. I'm assuming that because of this, my phone has developed the habit of not alerting on new message arrival using the regular tone or vibration. It just sleeps. But an Icon does appear and when i press some key later (for calling or simply for fun) then it alerts for all the msgs that it missed alerting earlier.
Am i missing some setting in MPE or my phone. Please advise.
Also, when we open a msg in MPE, all actions like reply, forward etc are disabled. They are possible when the msgs are in Inbox and not opened as separate items. In outlook style, when a msg is opened, it is possible to perform all and possibly more actions on that msg as was possible when it is in inbox. Can we retain the same style? This was asked in a previous FAQ, but the reply could not be traced.
So I asked again.
